Spinoff....

Well, what they're pitching is the time between Pike first handing Command over to Kirk; and the second TOS pilot episode Where No Man Has Gone Before.

(Works for me - but who knows what Skydanc e Execs will think assuming they're even open to the idea of continuing in the 23c era; or continuingb Streaming new Star Trek at all after SNW and SFA finish in 2027.)

I'm absolutely ok with more Paul Wesley, and a show with him is fine by me.
But not Year One. As mentioned by others, I'd dare them to be bold and set it after TMP. Fans will ofcourse scream bloody murder because it's not THE Refit Enterprise but a refit of the SNW version. Fine by me. I trust them to make it all work.

But all in all, I really am even more ok with a non Kirk/Spock show. We've had three versions of these characters now, and Star Trek is and can me so much more. Just as I'd watch Legacy if that would be made, I would watch Year One. But surely there are more interesting and original settings to think of by now?

Year One would have Piper rather than McCoy though, right? Gary Mitchell rather than his (ex?)wife? Sulu the physicist and Yeoman Smith?

I really hope they try to rehabilitate the yeoman role. It doesn't have to be as sexist as TOS made it and it would be nice to see more non-coms.

NuBSG frustrated me by excising all the original female characters. We got Sheba briefly, Duala teased elements of Athena, and Six adopted elements of Cassiopeia but we never got full on proper character conversions, almost as if they deemed the originals too sexist to bother. A modern interpretation of Cassiopeia would have been great.

I'd be down for it for one or two seasons if it was a springboard to post-TMP.

I think you spelled “person who shares his last name “ wrong.
I quite like her character. She conveys a lot without much dialogue.

It's like the Naked Time where either Nimoy made a mistake or they changed the order of the scenes without tweaking the script and we have two different Rands manning the helm in the same episode.

It seems like the spinoff show would practically sell itself. It has Kirk and Spock and the rest of the crew everyone knows. And the expensive sets and the CGI models already exist. All upsides in terms of name and social recognition and lower upfront costs than usual.

The biggest downside might be Peck's availability and price. Usually cast expenses increase overtime and he'll be the longest serving actor. Will he even want to continue?

Fingers crossed!

Put me down for another "I'd watch, but..." I'd definitely rather see this cast do post-TOS (you know we never got to see all of the 5 year mission) or post-TMP.

Paul Wesley's Kirk doesn't resonate with me.

What I really want, is a full-on Star Trek reboot. No continuity, a completely fresh start and a serious take with new writers, producers and directors. And less quips.
