The Klingon make up looked better this season, they keep refining it.

I wonder if anyone clocked she was the Ambassador’s daughter based off her ridges before the reveal. Also if they skipped the previously on.

I don’t like the Klingon makeup on either the Klingon normals or the zombies, but I’ve never enjoyed zombie movies either.

I’m not sure what they’re planning to do with Batel, though I suppose Gorn-human hybridization is one way to write her off before Pike’s injury and add to Pike’s tragic back story. Pike had some tough breaks here: his girlfriend lied and didn’t trust him and he’s going to be taking a Gorn-human hybrid to bed; his good buddy M’Benga is a murderous assassin and lied to him about it. The world is topsy turvy. Who can he trust?

I'm wondering if the hybridization takes hold in a bad way for Batel, so she goes on a one-way trip to the Gorn homeworld to infect them with it, which then alters them into the Gorn we saw in TOS. Hey, if a disease can alter Klingons, why not do the same to hibernating Gorn?

How so? He joins other ship doctors who had a lot of failed marriages: McCoy, Pulaski, etc. I assumed Rukiya’s mom Debra died from his reaction to seeing an adult Rukiya, so he was probably widowed at least once.

Pulaski's the only equivalent, McCoy was only married 1 time, which is nowhere near Pulaski's or M'Benga's numbers

It seems that specific ritual is more common across different species than we thought.

I don't think that it was ever meant to be ambiguous that M'benga killed Ral. He says as much to Pike when he says the man killed children. Fans just assumed they wouldn't make the doctor carry out an extrajudicial killing. This was just to clear it up.

I actually felt that should have been the focus of the episode.

The zombies distracted a bit too much and felt unimaginative even if they were there just to facilitate the other plots. Seriously, I would have preferred the Moopsy or Plant Monsters.

Not to seem like a dog with a bone, but I wonder if establishing additional marriages for M'Benga is a prelude to establishing additional children. I still think they're lying to us in promo material about what the name of Ensign Nurse is to cover a reveal, just like with John Harrison and Javid Iqbal.

He definitely killed him, but the way it was staged was meant to offer some narrative ambiguity about which of them actually started the fight, even though it was pretty likely M'Benga was the one who snapped. And even if he hadn't, M'Benga was definitely provoking him to try and get an excuse to kill him.

I suppose I didn't think that it was a fight so much as M'Benga just straight up stabbed the guy within seconds of the guy putting his hand on him.

McCoy was married at least twice and presumably divorced or separated twice. The first was the mother of his daughter, Joanna, before the series, and the second was the woman on the generational ship, Nataya

I can't believe a show imbued with the legacy of Gene Roddenberry would have a character that's had failed marriages.

Well I was expecting to hate it. And here I am giving it a 9 ... So that is strange. But this episode worked for me. It is much deeper than just simple Erica subordination. She fought the war ... Number One did not. She made a pretty wild call and wrong of course, but I get it why. And I love that fact. So all in all, surpised in a good way.

I mean, neither were disciplined seriously. Two weeks is nothing for deliberately derailing a mission.
