SNW Season 5 In Development

For shite and giggles I asked 2 different A.I this exact question: Whats the public general consensus of Paul Wesley "s performance of James T. KIRK?

response 1

Paul Wesley's portrayal of James T. Kirk in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" has received mixed reviews. Some fans appreciate his fresh take, while others feel he lacks the quintessential "Kirk-like" qualities. William Shatner praised Wesley's performance, calling it "brilliant".

response 2

Paul Wesley’s performance as James T. Kirk in Strange New Worlds has received mixed reactions. Some viewers appreciate his fresh, more grounded take on a younger Kirk, while others feel he lacks the iconic charisma and presence of past portrayals.

All I'm saying is that the general consensus on his Kirk is mixed. And it's likely TPTB would factor that in doing a new show. Now it's possible as Wesley continues to play Kirk , he will receive more momentum . But I don't think we are there yet

All this shows is that a certain vocal minority of fans are the ones crying the loudest.

You’re entitled to your opinion.

AI doesn’t validate it though. Sorry. Even for shite and giggles.

I think we can't really know if Wesley can be a leading man.ad Kirk because he's literally a secondary character. Him being Kirk creates an absurd standard but we just don't know

Given the AI gets all its information from the internet proper; I'm Amazed Wesley's performance got as good a review considering 95% of everything on the net is clickbait.

Most of the people complaining about the current state of Trek or doing so just because negative raging gets more clicks than positive reviews overall.

Didn't say it did . The A.I is essentially scraping this data off of online sources. My use of A.I was akin to looking to see what a movies rotten tomatoes score is .Real people I speak to in real life seems to have a midling opinion on him too. Including people I come acoss in Trek conventions. From my experience, Very few /noone is rage hating on him in real life. That is the online rage haters. Most seem to have a lukewarm reaction to him. So I'm not hating on the guy. Just saying he's decent. Not outstanding. ( my opinion) Now My other musings ( a.i consensus scraping) is more so speculation ( something that happens on message forums) on what the studio may find if they did a deep dive on vetting the popularity of the portrayal . Maybe I'm wrong and he's more popular than I thought. I dont think it's unreasonable to spitball on the question on if Wesley can pull off centre stage leading role as Kirk in a hypothetical new series. A.I is just one tool. I don't dismiss out of hand or unilateral agree with it either.
Like it or not, perception, whether it's reality or not, is a thing in pop culture. Vocal minorites can get amplified on echo chambers. Sad but true. And that can be a factor in swaying studios decisions.

To be clear, I'm not a Wesley "hater". Or part of that group that just likes to complain about moden trek or that something is different than what they're expecting. Chapel is 100 percent different and I like her character even more than the TOS version. My opinion on Wesley is literally middle of the road. I've seen beter, I've seen worse.

But as a side note, I really do like the dynamic betwen him and Sam. I do enjoy that chemistry and give him considerable credit there.

Complaining now is a full time job. Before it was just food critics but now anyone can make a buck off of it.

If someone actually asked Wesley to be lead man material for Trek, I think he'd do it. Easily.

As long as they don't take inspiration from the really dumb comics (I should dumb-sounding since it isnt out yet but its predecessors don't give me any hope) or Shatnerverse novels and resurrect Kirk at some other point.

There is literally zero reason to make one. We saw most that mission in TOS, and TAS is the final year. While it’s certainly possibly to cover the first year of Kirk’s mission, would they seriously spend three seasons on the adventures of Elizabeth Dehner, Gary Mitchell, Mark Piper and Yeoman Rand, along with gold shirt Spock, gold shirt Scotty and blue shirt Sulu? And I do not think anyone cares that Uhura, Chapel, and M’Benga are absent from WNMHGB, or that Chekov was nowhere to be seen in “Space Seed”.

But happens if they want to do a 4th or 5th season? Are they going to flash forwards to the TMP era? Or are they going to stretch it out by showing Kirk’s time on the Republic and Farragut? Certainly such scenes would be better as being a part of the teaser or an episode based around temporal hijinks.

May has well make a Robert April show. Or a show set on a different ship with Una in command. Or even the adventures of Empress Sato and Captain Mayweather miniseries on the USS Defiant in the mirror universe, since both DIS and S31 left some questions despite ENT wrapping everything up in a nice pretty bow. As Akiva said himself, the sets are there.
I believe Yeoman Colt turned into a spiky alien in Discovery: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Colt , and if we're supposed to believe that Colt was "always" a spiky alien, one wonders how the Talosians intended on breeding her with Pike.
There is a 3-4 year gap between "The Cage" and DIS S2. Maybe the alien just went through their equivalent of puberty in that time span.
From what I've seen of Wesley, I'm not sure he's Kirk to me. Reminds me too much of Jim Carrey doing Kirk impressions on In Living Color.
Wesley’s Kirk make sense if you consider that Wesley looks like Jeffrey Hunter’s Pike and that Anson Mount’s Pike sees a younger version of himself in Kirk.

It tracks with the idea that the Disco Klingons in S1 looked the way they did because the crew imagined them that way.

I don't know why they can't just continue Trek where Picard left off and stop all the filling in gap Baloney. It's getting tiring and boring. Star wars the same thing but at least they actually have produced some stellar content. Current Trek has NOTHING on Andor or the Mandalorian.....

This post makes no sense. If a story is well produced, why does it matter when it takes place? I'll take well produced "gap filler" over any dreck that takes place after PIcard or what ever th SW equivalent is timelinewise.
