‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed for Fifth and Final Season

That's nice, but others certainly did.

There were huge swathes of fandom complaining about Voyager's Dark Frontier rewriting history regarding Federation contact with the Borg. And then when Enterprise came along, there was someone every week complaining about some perceived continuity error the show made, often contradicting themselves. IE, in the first season people complained about the fact the show didn't use TOS Klingons, those same then later complained when the explanation came that it was "unnecessary."

Twenty-five years later. Anyone who is okay with that owes it to themselves to withhold complaints about any changes made in the modern shows until twenty-five years have gone by.

As I already said there were complaints with Berman era...mostly about Enterprise and it being a prequel and looking too high tech compared to TOS. (Which I never thought it did. I loved the aesthetics of Enterprise) when you compared how it looks with Disco and SNW's it looks perfectly fine as a precursor to TOS.... 😂 I would be interested to know if the people who complained about Enterprise as a prequel have the same issues with Disco/SNW. 🤔

I loved the explanation of the Klingon change during Enterprise. It was very well done. Too bad Disco had to go and make the Klingons look like Asgardians ... 😂

No Berman show ever stomped on TOS the way SNW and Disco has. There really is no comparison.

Yeah, I totally remember the vitriol being thrown towards the "Killer Bs" on this very board during the Dark Frontier discussions.

Also agreed about the Klingon explanation. The augment virus wasn't written on holy script and hidden in a vault to break out by the decree of the Great Bird in time of low ratings, it was a retcon no different than anything done in the Kurtzman era. People who think it's any different really need to get a sense of perspective.
You can keep telling yourself that but it was NEW backstory that did not contradict like SNW and Disco. They just didn't. You can keep trying but it just isn't true. It was a neat little explanation to the bumpy/smoothy debate trekkers were belly aching about for years. I was happy they did it. Sadly it only lasted 10 years and Disco had to go and flipping ruin it....smh

I remember Back in the Day, everyone took issue with the fact Berman had never watched TOS and thus didn't "respect" it and damned and vilified him accordingly. Now he's being blessed for not "stomping on" TOS.

Amazing how the times chage.
He respected it a heck of a lot more than the previous productions. 😂 The writers of those shows even EMBRACED TOS. Showed the interiors of the original sets three times, had actors from TOS, had some ties to stories etc. I don't remember them making Spock into a sex maniac bedding two women at the same time like he is depicted in strange new worlds.

Yeah, it was a ship full of absolute professionals that took their jobs seriously, and when they didn't, they were reprimanded for it, sometimes in front of everyone else.
You watch the same show I did? McCoy and Spock were always jabbing at eachother. McCoy was prone to emotional outbursts. Chekov was sarcastic, etc. Kirk did not run that tight of a ship.
But Disco and SNW tptb have intentionally gone out their way to do whatever they want when it concerns canon.
Seems to me they've gone out of their way on multiple occasions to make sure the continuity is maintained.
SNW (about 6-7 before TOS. Both are doing it like a pair of rabbits all over the ship. 😂
I must have missed that episode.
Everyone is surprised by T'pring in Amok time. Chapel included.
No they're not. That's been proven in this very thread. Uhura didn't know who she was. That's it.
And the Gorn.
Seems to me they're still bipedal alien lizards.
And the aesthetics
Visual update, nothing more.
And the technology.
They've done nothing in Strange New Worlds that they couldn't have done in The Original Series.
, god forbid you even think of bringing up Robert April
Who cares? He appeared once on a Saturday morning cartoon that has been in and out of the canon for decades. What we have now is far superior.
Klingons got an explanation,
25 years later.
The current "gorn" bare no similarities at all.
What did we know about the Gorn before? They were bipedal lizards that were territorial and prone to pretty harsh tactics. Seems to me that not much has changed.
except for the rescaling of the ship
The scale was never established in canon to begin with. The new scale makes more sense.

Meanwhile, in the real world, with the exception of the brief mention of Kirk in The Naked Now, The Next Generation actively avoided acknowledging The Original Series at all In the early days. When Brannon Braga was hired, Gene Roddenberry very specifically told him NOT to watch the original series. There was debate in the writers room as to whether or not they should even mention Spock in "Sarek".

And the next phase of trek will do the same for this era. It will be "the good old days".

There is no way that will happen.. Especially with long time fans. We will all be dead within the next 20-30 years. I know I won't be waxing nostalgia at 80 years old about the kurtzman era. Plus the new shows don't even get three seasons worth of episodes. Which means they will never have the impact the other shows had. SNW will have only two lousy seasons worth of episodes......with half of those being comedy bits.... 😂

Yes. That's their job. Roddenberry did it with TMP, Meyer did it with TWOK and TUC, and so on.

Anyways for me Star Wars will always have the tighter universe when it concerns story and general looks. That is something Star Trek will never be able to take from Star Wars.
Who cares? It's not a competition. Star Wars is deeply entrenched fantasy storytelling using science fiction stylings and veneer. It's not Star Trek and isn't trying to be. The competition game is pointless.

I'm not saying one thing about it one way or the other, I'm just saying that it is. And we roll with it. It changes absolutely nothing of relevance about the story.
This. The changes have always been there. Just now they're treated as signs of ill will be the producers.
Sure they have done it. Added Backstory that makes sense is great. Stuff that doesn't make sense not so much. Spock and Chapel. Chapel was obviously pining for Spock during TOS. Spock simply could not reciprocate that. He would not allow himself to do so. Unless of course under some type of influence. SNW (about 6-7 before TOS. Both are doing it like a pair of Rabbits all over the ship. 😂
So no relationship what do ever?

Its actually one of the complaints younger viewers have about it, after seeing the camaraderie of the ensembles and "fun factor" of the later shows.
Which is why Spock was insulted as a sensible chuckle moment at the end of episodes?

Showed the interiors of the original sets three times,
Ah, that old chestnut. They only did that because it was convenient. In Relics the original plan was to use the movie bridge until they learned of a fan recreation of the TOS bridge and decided "why the hell not?" Trials and Tribble-Ations had no choice in the matter as they were splicing the DS9 actors into TOS footage and had to make it look as seamless as possible. In a Mirror Darkly took place during Enterprise's Year of the Wank.

Mcoy raise his eyebrow in disbelief, uhura of course had zero clue, chapel looked surprised and kirk looked mildly amused. As for the ship it was not necessary to make Pikes Quarters as large as Ten forward or a turbo interior the size of the Enterprise D. They were all dumb decisions by the production team imo. The aesthetics are nice though..I won't argue with that..

Hey I'm just saying the writers knew TOS. Despite what people think of Berman he did not write all the episodes.. 😂....they showed respect for TOS. There is no way anyone will convince me they didn't.

And there is no way that anyone can convince me that the current showrunners don't.

Maybe you can't be. But unfortunately they have disregarded what came before more than any show before it. To their credit they tried to backpedal on a few things. But probably made it worse In doing so. Holographic communication anyone??.. 😂
