Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

I swear the Archer Type is the perfect size for a small Single-Digit Crew Scout Ship to go exploring.
My only contention is the mounting of the base of the pylon, I wish it had a built in flush StarDrive section mounted to the aft of the saucer.
This way the StarDrive section can house the connection point that links up to Warp Nacelle.

Fanhome provided another view of the Archer. I've always liked this little scout ship!
That single warp nacelle looks like an art deco syringe...

I didn't know people had such strong feelings about one-nacelle starships.

Or three. Or five. Or seven. Or nine. Or sixty-nine.

I seem to remember it first popping up in the TNG Tech Manual.
(might have been one of the fan Trek Tech manuals I have though)

This is all the Tech Manual says on the subject:

A pair of nacelles is employed to create two balanced, interacting fields for vehicle maneuvers. In 2269, experimental work with single nacelles and more than two nacelles yielded quick confirmation that two was the optimum number for power generation and vehicle control.

Which is bunk, because one, three and four nacelled ships were being constructed before the Galaxy class. It does talk about the dual coils, but doesn’t use the excuse that you can have odd-numbered nacelles because of it, other than what I posted above.

Well it doesn't say that single nacelles weren't used, it just indicates that "nacelle pairs" are the optimum configuration.

Placing two offset pairs in a single nacelle apparently is functional, just not as good.

So ya get a nominal cruising speed of WARP 6-8 with two and WARP 4-6 with one.

Oh I get that. It’s just that the wording made it sound like there weren’t one or more than two nacelled ships before 2369, when in fact there were several.

I wonder how many nacelles the Drake had, since its top speed was only warp 3 ;)

My guess would be that that is based on the kind of Warp Engine was installed and how much of the ships power was available without straining the other ships systems.
