STID was a bloated crapshow that had a third act that, I felt, insulted my intelligence. All that being said, STID being so disappointing didn't dampen my enthusiasm for BEY. Any qualms I had about the third movie came from that film's own trailers.
Bad Trek can annoy the living hell out of me, but it doesn't piss me off so badly I just gloom-and-doom for the next couple of years.

The difference is 'Up the Long Ladder" is suppose to be us seeing real Irish people. From the future no less. The holodeck episodes though is suppose to be a fantasy setting for the crew to relax so it's not like the program is depicting a real Irish community. That is why all the town people are easy going and friendly and sort of surface level Irish because it would be pointless to depict a town where people act like real people because that would ruin the fantasy aspects of the setting.
I remember that episode. I have absolutely zero recollection of an Irish connection there.

Even so, that colony was in mortal danger and had as a whole been traumatized so I can see them being a little 'off' frpom what anyone would consider 'the norm'.
Not trying to mean or anything like that and obviously I have no clue about your circumstances, but seriously, if you are letting a TV show control your emotional state that heavily, then perhaps it might be time to consider talking to a professional about how things are going for you.
Television is meant to entertain and at times educate those who might be interested.
It is definitely not meant to be a standard for one's emotional state of mind.

Random thought but we know from Star Trek Into Darkness that augment blood regenerates cells from radiation damage, although somehow the Fed was not aware of this as Khan's blood regenerating a tribble was a surprise to McCoy.
We know Una is an augment. We also know her augment abilities include resistance to radiation. Pike knows he will have a delta radiation accident. He knows trying to avert things will harm the Fed and Spock. But what about going through with the accident, being wheelchair bound for a week, and then having Una's blood regenerate him?
We know Pike confided what happened to Una. How come Una hasn't thought of some way to use her blood to help Pike in the future? You think it would at least be mentioned. Or, considering how close Una came to being imprisoned, would her using her blood to try to help Pike out later on be some kind of violation of the Fed's strict anti-augment laws?

Why would all augments be the same? Khan was a product of 20th century eugenics while Una is from a planet were genetic augmentation is very common.
It's a dangerous assumption that all augments must be the same.
It's what seemingly led to the ban in the first place; though the assumption that they can cure anyone of radiation is at first glance more altruistic (heal people), some might think it reduces augments to a source of spare parts, cells, and fluids instead of a person.
Una is only an 'augment' by the fact she had herself genetically modified. That's the term the Earth/Federation uses for any being who has had their genetics modified.
She is not a Human augment from the 1990s, nor was she modified with Khan's DNA.
Bottom line: As she isn't a Human, we do not know if her blood would even be compatible with Pike's physiology.
Una specifically withstood radiation in that one SNW episode. I'm not claiming she's similar to Khan in any other aspect
Maybe if doctors held Una down by force and extracted blood from her against her will to help Pike. But going by everything we know about Una and Pike's relationship, she would give this blood willingly if it could help Pike

I think it's quite a disservice to tell other fans how they should enjoy their pasttimes. If they obsess over a TV show, I don't see the issue. We're all members of this forum because we at each individual level obsess over Star Trek. I myself obsess over the starships that most fans don't give a shit about. I don't walk into a football stadium and tell all the people there that they shouldn't obsess over football. So saying things like 'it's just a TV show, get over it' while being an active member of an internet forum devoted to said TV show is being hypocritical to the extreme.
Yep, when transwarp beaming showed up in Picard to travel to Nepenthe, it was treated as something only the Borg queen's chamber could do and there was literally no mention of Scotty's method of doing this without Borg tech, despite Romulus having been long gone and therefore Scotty's transwarp beaming had already been invented (unless he literally only told this to Spock for some reason and kept it secret from everyone else)
Psychotricorders would solve so many problems in Star Trek storylines after "Wolf in the Fold(TOS)," but those devices are shown and described once and never, ever reappear after 1967.
Because it's kind of a chicken-shit deus-ex-machina hacksaw writing escape valve to avoid coming up with something more organically woven into the plot requiring little-or-no imagination.So like most magic tech?
Never understood why these two things draw such ire.
It's one of the main reasons VOY was so consistently bad. It wasn't just "these two things". Trek is replete with bad technobabble lampshade-hanging to untie their own self-inflicted Gordian Knots. Paint themselves into a corner with something? Trot out the good ol' "If we [insert action here] the [insert McGuffin #1 here] and [insert secondary follow-up action here] the [insert McGuffin #2 here], we might be able to [effectively press this week's reset button and come through this artificially manufactured problem completely unscathed]." I've lost track of the number of times I've seen that exact same line of dialogue quoted, mostly by either the ship's Chief Engineer or Science Officer.
