No, it's not. Unless you're twelve.
You know, Christian Bale has gained weight and lost weight and put on muscle etc. throughout his career for different roles. People have certainly questioned the healthiness of his practice, and have suggested (and he's acknowledged) that it may not be the best example to hold up as an actor's ideal method of preparation.
But I don't think anyone's ever ascribed what he does to "peer pressure." Probably because he's an adult male and therefore by default assumed to have agency.
It's not any more worthy of speculation or judgment when Gooding loses weight than if she gained it.
I disagree with the assertion that peer pressure isn't a major factor in
most people trying to lose weight. It's still very common, and although the pressure has become gentler and more nuanced as my social group moves into its 50s and 60s it's hardly gone away.
I do, however, very much agree that the film and TV industry is not "most" people. When there's pressure on an actor to lose or gain weight or bulk or muscle, it's generally not "peer" pressure because a peer is an equal - and
when there's outside pressure on an actor, it's almost always from an authority figure. That's not peer pressure.
But I very much agree that it's none of our business why Ms. Gooding lost weight - if she even did, which I certainly don't see in that photo. What I see is longer hair, which changes the perceived shape of one's face, and a very flattering angle as one would expect for a publicity photograph. But anyway,
if she did lose weight that's none of our concern - with the caveat that if we should learn that some authority figure pushed her into doing something she didn't want to do, we should get angry.
Finally, as excited as I am that Season 4 is filming, I really just want Season 3 to be released so I can watch it! Are we there yet? Are we there yet?
