News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

Looking over the other shows.
Disco got its forum September 1 2016, over a year before it premiered. The show was first announced November 2015.
Picard got its forum November 26 2019, close to two months to the day before it premiered. The show was first announced summer 2018.
Lower Decks got its forum July 15 2020, just under three weeks before its premiere. The show was first announced October 2018.
Prodigy got its forum September 30 2021, just under a month before its premiere. The show was first announced February 2019.
SNW got its forum March 28 2022, about five weeks before its premiere. The show was first announced May 2020.

So there we have it. The furthest in advance we got a forum prior to a show release was Disco, at a little over a year. And as previously noted, at the time, we thought the show was going to premiere in January 2017, a little over four months in advance. Which would still be the soonest a forum was set up anyway. But even if you just look at the fact that Disco got its forum a year in advance, that means that since the Academy series isn't supposed to premiere until 2026, the soonest you can expect a forum is sometime in 2025. Even though like everything from Lower Decks onwards, it'll likely be a monthish before the premiere when we get the forum.
Back when the Disco forum launched, new Trek was a scarcity. Now it's a bi-weekly kinda thing.

I also think it might be canned before it is aired. We now live in a post Batgirl, world were they can make whole movies just disappear and use as a tax write off or something.

Paramount is at 61% down for shares. Wouldn't surprise me. That's business.

To me we already had great Trek so anything good and new at this point is icing on the cake. I have my doubts the Academy show or Section 31 will be adding anything special but then again I thought it was a dumb idea for Star Wars to do a show around Cassian Andor so you never know.

Any show is just icing.

Buffy and Smallville do not belong in the same sentence, unless the sentence is "Smallville was an uninspired and poorly-written knockoff of Buffy The Vampire Slayer."
Man, this is the second time today I've talked about Superman in a thread with nothing to do with him. Anyway, Starfleet Academy will hopefully have the advantage of actually showing people do Star Trek things, unlike Superman-Without-Superman.

All exciting announcements for casting. I think this show is winning over the fans as Sec31's setting seems to have done for them.
I have to be honest, I was never really concerned that they were going to cast bad actors, not in the lead roles at least, so it hasn't changed my opinion at all. The most encouraging bit of news for me so far is Tawny Newsome being a writer. If they can just bring over the entire Lower Decks writers room, that'd certainly enhance my anticipation.

Tawny isn't even a writer on Lower Decks.

Yeah, but she's funny and she knows her Star Trek, and if they can hire more people with those qualities I'd have a lot more hope for this project.

At this moment the show's got 'three good actors but one of them is a writer, and one of the sets is very big' going for it.

Tawny has a background in comedy, where it's entirely normal to work as both a writer and an actor simultaneously. Indeed, it's hard to come up with a major comedian who doesn't write some of their material. And we know at least some of her lines on lower decks are adlibbed.

Mind you, we have no real evidence there will be a particularly strong comedic slant to Starfleet Academy, so I'm not sure what that will mean for the show.
