News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

Section 32 deals with creating Federation money and keeping it a secret. All those fools who think they are living in a uptopia without money don't realize that a Section 32 agent always shows up before or after they do business with alien planets or stores or companies and pays them off and tells them to let the Federation people think they are getting stuff for free so they can spend more time bettering themselves.

Do we have any solid leads on start of Production or filming schedule for Academy yet? Besides late summer, that is.

Yeah it seems bizarre not to have a forum. This is coming. It has the largest trek set ever. It's not getting vanished before it airs. Why resist having a forum? Seems silly.
Because the show isn’t premiering until 2026? And it’s only 2024 now?

They need mods, and set up the new space.

No need when the show isn't airing.

Again, it just seems silly, rather than having a space to digest news individually. Easier to find things - everything gets lost in this years old mega thread!

So make more work for staff for little results until the show airs?

That sounds equally silly.

To quote our Mandalorian friends "this is the way." The other shows didn't get their own forum until a few months prior to their premiere, why should the Academy be any different?

IIRC Discovery was given a forum way in advance, which led to a ton of speculation threads.

Since then, they've stuck to last-minute forum additions.

Didn't that have more to do with the fact its premiere date kept getting postponed? IE the forum was first created fall 2016, a few months prior to the expected January 2017 premiere date, which was then postponed to summer then eventually fall 2017.

I think one thing we can expect is no matter how many cool ideas we think the show should embrace it is is most likely they will end up instead going with something way less interesting.
This sounds really negative, but I can't think of any cool ideas for the show to embrace, so anything they do will be more interesting than what I've personally imagined.

You might need to put quotes around "interesting" though.

I mean - this isn't a natural law. Someone did it last time like this, and that's it. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be better different.

I am much more likely to go check on this forum once some news drop - be it SNW, SA, or S31. Feels weird then to not have a dedicated place for such news, and instead having 95+ pages of a single thread where that news might or might not have been discussed a week ago and now has a completely different discussion going on that I would detail going back to Paul Giamatti or something...

Looking over the other shows.
Disco got its forum September 1 2016, over a year before it premiered. The show was first announced November 2015.
Picard got its forum November 26 2019, close to two months to the day before it premiered. The show was first announced summer 2018.
Lower Decks got its forum July 15 2020, just under three weeks before its premiere. The show was first announced October 2018.
Prodigy got its forum September 30 2021, just under a month before its premiere. The show was first announced February 2019.
SNW got its forum March 28 2022, about five weeks before its premiere. The show was first announced May 2020.

So there we have it. The furthest in advance we got a forum prior to a show release was Disco, at a little over a year. And as previously noted, at the time, we thought the show was going to premiere in January 2017, a little over four months in advance. Which would still be the soonest a forum was set up anyway. But even if you just look at the fact that Disco got its forum a year in advance, that means that since the Academy series isn't supposed to premiere until 2026, the soonest you can expect a forum is sometime in 2025. Even though like everything from Lower Decks onwards, it'll likely be a monthish before the premiere when we get the forum.

And FWIW, Picard only went up as early as it did because I was ready and willing to solo mod it until my co-mod was recruited...looks like that happened on Jan. 10, just inside of two weeks of the premiere.

Nothing is preventing people from talking about news. We see it all the time in General Threads.
