Yup. 2017 called and asked for their criticisms back.

Why are we still having to say it? People are more upset with me than they are the casting director or the writers for giving a character a skill she can't possibly have. If I pointed out that Warwick Davis shouldn't portray an NBA player, nobody would bat an eye. But Tilly twice being portrayed as an endurance runner and me calling it preposterous is a bridge too far

I'm tempted to give this episode a 1 just because they want me to believe Tilly could run a race, much less win one. Not enough sci-fi in the world to explain that.

I've already mentioned my friend Traci, so I'll mention my co-worker, Karisa. She's five two, five three in work boots, weighs probably 100 pounds soaking wet, mounts and dismounts tires for a living on cars, SUVs, light and full size trucks and vans. Some tires are almost as tall as her when on edge and weigh just as much as she does. Ability over appearance.

Cool

Pretty standard PD episode, was a decent entry. One thing bugged me as they left the system, though: isn’t it kinda shitty that they didn’t fix the other towers? Should have been easy enough to do, seems like some fresh cards and a reboot and they could have gotten the planet back on its feet. ‍

Thought about that, but it didn't look like the various circles would connect, and all the people in those areas were already dead, so there would be no way to get people to those areas (without further breaking the prime directive).

my question is, what exactly are they doing at the edge that requires them to be exposed to the storms? I was unclear on what that job was.

One of the most boring episodes ever. Never big fan of these pre-warp primitive type planets in Trek(except on TOS were it was kind of charming) and even though you sometimes get something good like 'Inner Light" I was really checking the time a lot. Didn't care about any of the guest characters and Tilly as a teacher is just not as fun as early seasons Tilly. The stuff with Culber was the only somewhat decent stuff going on IMO. Nice Kovic spot as well.

I get your first reaction. There are overweight marathon runners though.

What’s with the body shaming? Getting a playground bully vibe from certain posters. It’s hardly a demonstration of Trek’s compassionate and humanistic sensibilities.

Shifting topic, I really miss Saru. Does anyone know if Doug Jones had prior commitments and wasn’t available for full time filming this season? That’s what happened with Mary Wiseman last season and I missed her greatly too. Glad to have her and her performance was one of the episode’s high points.

Also I really don't know if all the legacy bridge crew actors have better gigs or something, but it's so weird that they took them out of the show entirely and introduced half of a new bridge crew.

Maybe they’re trolling all the “why don’t we know more about the bridge crew” complainers! “You’re not going to know more about them—we’re going to get rid of them altogether! Ha.” Kidding. They probably should have rotated the bridge crew actors more to begin with, given a greater feel of shift work, stopped people thinking they should be on a par with the main cast, I don’t know. I do miss seeing Owo and Detmer though. I hope it’s because the actors had other work commitments.

Seems like the actors may have had other gigs, but it seems an inauspicious sendoff.

Also, if they didn't try to make them characters in S3, I almost wouldn't bother. But at this point they've gotten about the same character development as Travis Mayweather so they are more than the "McKnights" (or that Asian woman in SNW) of the bridge crew in terms of being glorified extras...
