A nice touch from this episode, they used the old season 1 warp speed effect when in the past.
Two less actors to sit around and give stats. Smart moveThe only reason Comms and Science weren't part of TNG's mix of bridge crew was because Worf and Data essentially doubled up as those roles, respectively.
We all have a favorites and tend to make them a bigger deal than they actually were. Sulu, Uhura and Chekov come to mind. There are even people wishing for more from a two timer like Riley. Who in only two appearances had more background and personality than Sulu and Uhura combined.I guess it's because the named/few lines here and there extra's from TNG did a lot less than all the bridge crew we see in Discovery, who are a bit more fleshed out and have more depth. So it makes people curious about more.
I wonder why they just didn't change the make up?I never knew they changed Data’s uniform from blue to gold but it makes sense, I can’t imagine him in blue at all.
Pretty sure that was just a reused shot from Season 1 or 2A nice touch from this episode, they used the old season 1 warp speed effect when in the past.

Wars Trek
But they do get given stuff to do. Owo and detmer were a big part of the mirror universe arc during season 1, detmer had a PTSD arc in season 3 they also helped save the ship in season 3, they all went on away missions in season 4. Discovery is more akin to TOS were it focuses on core characters. Rhy, Detmer and owo are the chekov, sulu and Uhura's of Discovery. And again, I know more about Detmer, Owo and Rhys than I do about Chekov, sulu and uhura in TOS. Even in the movies, they continued to play second fiddle to Kirk, Spock and Bones. My issue has always been that the stories they chose to tell with these characters are the dullest, least interesting stories you can do.
If you're going to go to the trouble of puttinger Owo and Detmer in cast photos and putting them on con panels maybe, I dunno, actually do something with them.
The Klingons would be like, "first one to detonate a torpedo inside the shuttlebay wins a barrel of bloodwine!"
Either Calypso is, as I've always suspected, simply a dream of Zora's (she says here that she dreams a lot), or it takes place in the alternate future where the crew are all dead.
Got to be a dream. In addition to the ship being in the 23rd century configuration, in Calypso everything is clean, they have consistant power and the Dots are there doing maintenance. In the last episode power is about to fail for good, and everything is dirty.

Other official cast photos from past seasons are also of the opening credits actors.
They been doing that since day one. Pretty sure Anson Mount was a Main. Same with Yeoh.Got to love that. "This guy, who's turned up just this year for ten episodes? Main character. You guys, who've been here since day one? Secondary. No episode focus for you. Half the viewers don't even know what your names are."
I'd agree with that. Combining several positions to make stronger characters can be a smart move. Two less actors to sit around and give stats. Smart move
