Night Court revival

Ah, okay, so presumably he's not Neil's replacement, he's just a guest star. It would've been weird to demote a judge to a court clerk.
In his defense, Judge Flobert was nuts. (rewatched Train Court just now)

Perhaps one of the episodes before The Night Court Before Christmas will explain what happened.

Had they started filming/writing Night Court before the strike?

Wondering if Neil wasn't available for this... if this episode was a "special" one filmed at a different time than regular episodes?

Definitley felt Night Court ish.... We will see in a couple of weeks , i guess what happens to Neil?

"Season 2 will be more in the tradition of the original Night Court, which showcased different personalities, characters and perspectives,” sources close to production reveal."

I wonder, is that a doublespeak reference to the way the original show kept replacing cast members? Or do they mean they're going to focus the stories more strongly on the eccentric plaintiffs and defendants and their situations, like in the original, rather than focus mainly on the regular cast with the cases being a background element? I hope it's the latter.

Finally got a chance to watch the Christmas episode and it was a lot of jolly fun. I enjoyed Abby and Dan's sleuthing for Virginia's Christmas list and it's always a delight to see Kareem Abdul-Jabbar pop up as himself. Olivia willingly choosing to be tormented by the Ghost of Christmas Present instead of helping Virginia was fun to watch.

A pity Neil is definitely gone but I guess I'll be the only person who'll be missing him.

For some reason I thought this episode was going to lead directly after the finale and would feature Roz heavily, which lead me to think initially that Gurgs' present to Dan was Roz showing up (which would've been a funny parallel to Frasier's Christmas episode). Now I see that continuation happens with the beginning of the second season.

PR cover for recasting I would guess

Finally caught the Xmas special. It was solid. Good embrace of classic Night Court absurdity, good character humor, nice Santa mystery plot, effective use of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Flobert is definitely more entertaining than Neil was. It works well seeing Abby and Dan with more of an adversarial relationship; they have a good comic chemistry that way. And I got what I wanted, a story driven largely by the guest characters and their interplay with the regulars.

Sadly, my DirecTV is having some kind of spat with NBC, so I can't see it.

Wow. That sucks. Gonna have to check my end.

It's up. Must be owned by a different company.

Tonight's ep was pretty good. Loved seeing Roz some more.

Happy 40th Birthday to the original!

The night of January 4, 1984, we were introduced to the youngest judge in the New York City judicial system. And boy, was it a memorable introduction. "Couldn't you just DIE?"
