I think the only genre I dislike is Saw style horror.
I do wonder if Gooding’s background as a singer was a factor in casting her as Uhura, since the character (and original actress) was a singer.
"Children of the Comet" was built around her singing. And I think she's done a little in other episodes as well. That would depend on if she sings again, in future episodes. Come to think of it, it may make sense as a casting criteria, as Nichele Nichols could sing and sang in episodes.
I'm just waiting for Mr. Tambourine Man by Paul Wesley while we are at it.
This is my fifth(?) watch-through of "Subspace Rhapsody", and La'an's big song, "How Would That Feel", lays bare the very fabric of her character. It's exquisite. This is the power of the musical. I know her now. I didn't before. I had glimpses. I had inferences. Now I know her.
Still saying: Keeping Secrets is underrated.La'An and Spock. Who expected that out of Spock, after all these decades?
That's been my earworm for the past week.Still saying: Keeping Secrets is underrated.
It's imaginary, just a tv show. Don't sweat the small stuff. One of the best episodes from any series, but why did they have to ruin it by Uhura saying Sato could speak 63 languages? The character wasn't convincing to speak more than a handful of languages.
Maybe this should be another thread, but what is up with ST and polyglottery in the recent series? There were episodes in Enterprise where Sato hears a few phrases and is suddenly able to speak fluently. No, that's not how language works. It's ridiculous that Uhura at her age in SNW could speak 37 languages and it's not believable for her character. Then there's Saru in Discovery. I get the idea that no one writing any of this has ever met a polyglot, nor knows anything about it.
I am a musically oriented person. Music is my life. I hear harmonies in all things.
This episode was flawless.
Flawless.
Also, I just about pissed myself when the Klingons showed up on screen.
Fucking flawless.

No no no. It's having Uhura read Klingon from a book that's bigger than the dictionary I used to use as a booster seat at the dinner table at Grandma's house that ruins things now. This is what ruins things, now?

It doesn't, no. Just in case I was wrong, I hooked up my nice, big studio headphones and cranked it up. The bass comes in at the correct time.Really? The bass (which is brilliant!) comes in a second or two off in "Private Conversation".
I would really have loved to hear a much longer "Private Conversation".
Yeah, no.Sorry, posted in the wrong episode, it was the previous one, also one of my favorites. But yes, absolutely! It seems that the detail for things like this has gone down in recent series. Maybe I'm wrong, but TOS/TNG/DS9 seemed to have more accurate references to science, other cultural things like music, chess, etc. Or at least more of a focus on it.
