Well, you know something...Star Trek is written with the American audience in mind. There are hundreds of idiosyncratic things about it that are derived from American culture and directed at Americans.
And it has never really moved away from that in any significant way.
It's Paramount's great good luck that people around the world have responded to Trek the way they have. But it's not different from the long-time international popularity of the American Western genre.
SNW is a turning point for Trek in significant respects.
I was saying elsewhere on the board earlier today that Trek's ability to embrace and be expressed through so many genres is a tremendous difference between it as a property and Star Wars. The two are not as alike, at their cores, as they often appear to be.

Yeah, I mean most Star Trek series leads are American characters even if the actors were born in another country. Both TV Captain Pikes are American from the Mojave region of the U.S. Southwest, Kirk is from Riverside, Iowa, Sisko is from New Orleans, Janeway is from Bloomington, Indiana and Archer is from upstate New York.

Yep. In the pilot they establish the San Francisco area as where he's from but later retcon his birthplace as upstate New York. And both are canon.
Myself and those I knew who watched Buffy were a bit scared. Previously, musical episodes were often "jump the shark" points for TV shows. However, when it actually came out, I think most of us were blown away by how incredibly well it was done.
I'd vote 20 to 26 episodes.
I assume it's like my own situation. I was born in Georgia but only lived there for about two years. Spent the next decade bouncing between Texas and Japan. Finally settled in California when my father retired from the Air Force. If asked, I say I'm from California.Yep. Yeah, he's a native upstate New Yorker but spent so much time in flight training and later Starfleet Training in or around San Francisco he also considers California to be his stomping grounds. He and his dad may have left New York State by the time Henry and Zefram Cochrane dedicated the Warp Five Complex.
Henry Archer's biography is a mess. He apparently died when Jonathan was 12, but is elsewhere said that he gave Jonathan advice for flight school. Maybe Jonathan's a kid pilot like Anakin Skywalker?
My guess is he died in 2122 or 2123 and Jonathan had already started childhood flight training. He was already building models of 21st century spaceships in the opening sequence of "Broken Bow" and that was before the Warp Five Complex was dedicated (2119).
What I always find interesting is that Buffy did an episode at each extreme of the musical spectrum, a full-on musical episode and an episode with absolutely no music at all (the one where her mom died).
