Here's a thought on the show, the "gas Station" are they referring to a gasoline station back here in the 21st Century or a gas station for hydrogen gas?
The geek in me loved seeing the Bussard Collectors in full use.
Just the fact you named all the songs from Powerage gives me a big smile. That's my favorite album from the Bon Scott era.

It was good to see Hemmer again, he was a great character. I still think it was kind of a mistake killing him, but his death was glorious, the best Star Trek character death ever. And Pelia is a good and interesting replacement. How come Carol Kane is not listed in the opening credits?
An awful episode with a main plot that makes no sense at all. This show needs some good sci-fi writers which are unfortunately not that easy to come by. Gooding is a very talented actor so a +1 for that.

Yikes lol.
The plot was pretty easy to follow. In short:
1. The crew wanted to build an outpost to boost Starfleet's defense potential.
2. Alien beings were in the nebula surrounding that outpost.
3. Ships and the outpost using parts of the nebula were killing the aliens.
4. The aliens contacted Uhura through her brain to say "hey, quit killing us, okay?"
5. Pike put an end to the aliens being killed.
This ... makes perfect sense? Miscommunication between cultures is ... a common part of every good sci fi story.
Anyway, 10/10.
Yeah, it’s odd to me that anyone thinks the jazz ensemble requires a convoluted explanation after previous shows where they frequently showed the crews playing concerts, performing in acting troupes, etc.
TNG literally had a bunch of episodes where Will Riker brings his trombone and joins other crewmembers in performances in Ten Forward. How is this any different other than none of the jazz ensemble in this episode have recognizable characters?
The D also had classical music recitals. (No not the Beastie Boys
)
