Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

I do not like the curved neck at all. Or clashes with the Design language of the rest of the ship. The previous, angular design works much better.

Also ironic that SNW now copies TOS on having two different, contradicting versions of the same ship in the opening credits.:guffaw:
The YATI lives!

Sorry I may be a smidge testy after someone decided to jump down my throat over questioning a three digit number tied to fictional 1960's starship...
I jumped down your throat because this is the same tired argument we've heard a hundred times. All the evidence in the world is telling you one thing. To so actively ignore it is to be purposefully ignorant. But hey, you do you.
Hell, we just saw the shuttlebay and there aint no way in hell that fits in a 289m Enterprise.

Ironic I can say the same about your perspective. Many retcons fail to take and cheap retcons without compelling reasons behind them never do. Just look at all the times Gene himself made some new iteration of trek with the movies or TNG and basically went "I like this better, nothing before this point counts anymore, the uniforms were always beige" and folks ultimately eventually just went against what he said. I see no reason at this time for the size change to stick it would take SNW to either present a compelling reason in an interior design that fits in the still generously enlarged hull, or for other series to parrot the 442 figure and force a new normal (and even dang disco listed 288...), otherwise the change dies with SNW and like that 2150's K'tinga everyone will just look back and shrug at it as a weird temporary bump in continuity.

Because the artists just copied and pasted the numbers from TOS tech manual without thinking.
Plus those numbers don't work with the redesign because has different proportions to the TOS one.

If you were to take a 3D model of the Redesign and plop in the lengths from the tech manual it would come oblong or something.

They weren't thinking when they made the Discovery 750meters long, 50% warp nacelle, and facing three kilometer long stargate wraith ships either so I call it even :nyah:

trust me assuming they weren't is more generous than obvious that they just wanted the longest heroship to date.

The ridiculously long nacelles are pretty pointless if you ask me. Considering they have nothing to do with the spore drive. The original preproduction design of the Crossfield with shorter nacelles looked much better.

Its so weird to me that they have enough material there to bend them over and make a warp ring instead, yet they don't even try to technobabble a reason for the warp spikes beyond "built by a non-sol ship yard"

I do think the short nacelle version that was in all the Season 1 promotional art (and on computer displays in early season 1) looks better. I wish it was a costume option STO.

This does make me wonder now if we'll see SNW's "Crossfield" again (ie don't let a ship asset go to waste/its a psyop to cover the real crossfield program, etc) or if they'll keep it as just some dylithium miner's ultimate kitbash project.

I have no doubt we'll see that ship again. They might end up calling it something else, but there's nothing about it that isn't inherently unbelievable as a normal starship design.

Nothing you said here makes sense.

Anyway, the Enterprise is 1450 feet long.

the Enterprise is 442 feet long.
see exactly 442 feet is just as true as 442 meters when the interiors don't fit and none of the other startrek series toe the line, so I might as well use the original figure, you all will come around eventually after SNW's finished its run(after what will hopefully be many years from now) and remains the only series to refer to the enterprise as 442 meters long :nyah:

It’s the only series to give the ship a length period
