I watched this episode twice..and then a third time, with the whole family. That’s a first for me.
There’s so many fun little details going on; you can’t catch them all in one viewing. Like when Spock’s mom arrives and Spock is clearly about to break, Pike tries to get him out of there, “maybe we should go to sickbay”, and the doors shut in his face. The man conveyed confusion with the back of his head and his shoulder blades, for goodness sake.
And then he turns around, because the doors trapped him in there with them ), and you get to see him react when he knows Spock is about to take off the hat.
Perfection from start to finish. Everything in the foreground and the background is worth watching.

You are correct and it is a walking contradiction on my part. Trek never seems to give it weight. It feels very temporary which I find annoying.
I suppose it could be in keeping with the old, “a girl in every port” sailor’s culture as well as being a reflection of the fact that Roddenberry was an absolute dog. :ack:

True, Star Trek really hated captains having long-term relationships. That's why Picard and Beverly went nowhere. I'm surprised Sisko got to marry Kasidy Yates, I'm sure some among TPTB would have preferred it to have been a one episode fling.

Picard got Beverly pregnant and became a father. That went somewhere.

Pon farr discussions start to wear on my nerves.

Perhaps there's an entire culture on Vulcan that is set up to help single folks through their Pon Farr periods.
Kinda like a Green Light District.

I had to really think about this one.

I’m not 100% on Spock and Chapel. They might be going one toke over the line. I guess we will see.

I liked the aliens (Yellow and Blue), but the scene where Chapel is trying to convince them went on too long, and had a sort of overly talkly Discovery feel to it.

+1 for “WHAT THE F…?”

You forgot about Janeway and the hunky Irish Bartender from the holodeck.

Berman probably allowed the Ben/Kassidy stuff because they knew it was doomed given how Sisko ends up in the finale. Then again Behr, Moore and the rest probably still would have done it no matter what he said.
