Too bad; that's not the kind of story the writers want."
But that is what I’m literally paying for.
Some people are easily pleased with this Spock/Chapel stuff which to my mind is glorified fanfic.YMMV.
The “where no one has gone before” tag is turning out to be be false advertising.
Like I said before these seasons are just dribbling by(the foreshortened runs don’t help) and so far there has been no episode that I care to rewatch.Show me one “instant classic”.
Now you can berate and deride me all you want but remember that as a subscriber my opinion is just as valid as everyone else’s.
This programme isn’t what I hoped it would be.That’s all.

My favorite part was the energy realm with the entities and their colorful names. I wanna see sci-fi in Trek more than anything else. Comedy, battles, deep drama, action and suspense is good and can support the stories, but I do kinda miss the sci-fi a little in some of these episodes. Disco suffered from that as well.

I absolutely loved this one!

Great humor, great character beats, great emotional scenes, great scifi concept with the aliens... this had it all.

The entire cast has great comedic chops, but Anson Mount was phenomenally funny. Excellent sense of comic timing.

This is sort of an inverse of VGR's "FACES" or TOS' "THE ENEMY WITHIN", particularly in tone... and it works wonderfully.

Ethan Peck has done an outstanding job with his take on the Spock character. One of my favorite scenes in the entire series is his discovery of bacon. No, I'm lying... one of my favorite scenes in the franchise is his discovery of bacon! How can anyone not be more endeared to the Spock character after he finds out how wonderful, satisfying, delicious, mesmerizing, delightful, and GLORIOUS bacon is? BECAUSE LOVING BACON IS LOGICAL, BABY!!!!

I must also give praise to Spock's defense of his mom. That was so very, very well done. And this episode gave some real highlight and depth to Amanda, and it gives her conversation with Spock in "JOURNEY TO BABEL" about his duty to his father even more layers.

T'Pril... honestly, she is a bitch. Not only does she come across as supremely racist, but a terrible mother, too. And given how she was treating Sevet, I'm not holding out any hope of her being much of a decent wife, either. I know Vulcans can be jerks (something that's been true since the very beginning of the franchise), but T'Pril was just a higher level of jerkdom. She's a toxic person.

T'Pring... I think this was the final straw that made her take whatever steps she did to make sure "AMOK TIME" happens like it did. It's interesting that she 'accepted' Spock fully, human side and all, but damned him for making the human decision to not burden her with his condition before the ceremony started. The sad part is that Spock probably would have lost her even if he told her what was going on... T'Pring probably wouldn't be able to help with the ruse, and T'Pril would have made sure the arranged marriage ended right there. I can't say I'm really against T'Pring telling Spock they are taking a break because I have always felt that trust is part of the trinity of any relationship (the other two parts being honesty and respect), and if any one of that trinity is missing or broken, it's damn near impossible to fix. This applies to romantic relationships, friendships, business, co-workers... all forms of relationships. And to T'Pring, Spock did not trust her enough with the knowledge of the accident... which is rather consistent with previous situations in their relationship. So that was something that was broken already.

About the ending with Spock and Chapel... I'm not sure how I feel about that. I keep reading about a FRIENDS character in a similar situation (I asked my wife about it, as I have never seen an episode of that show), and while there might be a surface parallel, we have to keep in mind that Vulcans might not have the same hangups about having a fling while 'on a break' that humans do. I'm not sure I like the idea myself, but T'Pring was the one who called it off for now. I don't think Spock is fully in any kind of wrong here.

I gave this one a 10! Outstanding. Just outstanding!

Yep. One would have to be living under a rock not to be aware of the market for plant-based meat substitutes, from Smart Dogs to the Impossible Whopper.

I'm forced to carry them in my meat department in a grocery store. In the small town in... They don't sell. I sell more refrigerated meat-based dog/pet food and have never thrown that away. I throw out meatless proteins all of the time.

There's quite a bit of a difference between the 'we were on a break" bit between here and Friends. Both with what causes the break and hiw it's violated.

Ross gets drunk and is taken advantage of by a hot copy-store chick all the guys (well, Joey and Chandler) have a crush on. Here a sober Spock outright blows into Chapel to hook up.

Ross was not that Drunk.

While on an accidental date with the copy girl, Ross called Rachel, and Mark, her work buddy, was there, who Ross assumed correctly that he was into Rachel. Ross thought Rachel had already started %ucking other people, so he followed suit.

My wife is watching Friends for the first time, and she is on Ross's side, they were on a break.

He was pretty smashed.

I saw the episode less than a month ago.

She kisses him.

He stops her.

Thinks about Mark on top of Rachel.

Then starts back up with Kissing her.

Yes he was drinking and drunk, but Ross made a measured decision about whether or not he was cheating on Rachel, and whether he actually wanted to make out with a dirty girl in a seedy night club, and he decided that he was making good choices that would lead to the best future, like only a drunk idiot could.

Sorry.

I believe you are saying that he acted without thinking, meanwhile I think he thought about it, and then did something stupid.

I really don't agree. If she were sexualized, she would have been given far more revealing costumes. "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow" strongly emphasized her feelings over her sexuality.

Yeah I keep trying to figure out what this is referring to, other than, “lady character expresses sexual desire” (in a totally chaste way, BTW), and I’m just not seeing it. I think the comment is more about the commenter’s hang ups and not due to anything that actually happened.

It's probably been a year or two so since I've seen the episode, so I'll go with what you said.

My general point is that he was drunk so, yeah, he thought about it and did something stupid. That's kinda what being drunk is.

Now, being drunk doesn't make you think outside how you normally think so, yeah, it's something he wanted to do. But being drunk does remove your filters and lowers your inhibitions. Had he been sober he may have kept his emotions and drives in check and not acted on his anger from hearing Mark in the background on the phone.

Just being drunk kind of gives him... "an" out that he didn't do something he would normally do. Sort-of. A rocky one. (And for anyone thinking I wouldn't be saying this if it was reversed you're wrong. I've BEEN a Rachel in this kind of interaction and I told my girlfriend I didn't blame her because the guy took advantage of her being drunk. Still knowing some part of who she really was allowed it to happen. It made our relationship a bit rockier and we broke up a year later when she cheated on me again.)

Also, FWIW, even since a teenager seeing the episode I took Rachel's side in their ultimate break-up because, damn. Just that... There's some wiggle room. They could have worked through it which is ultimately what they did. And Ross should have just admitted he fucked up on some level when he got the letter at the beach.

But, still, they had a kid and got married.

Star Trek... Right. Sober Spock took Chapel fully and was about to go see her himself. He gets no wiggle room. Break or no break he straight-up smacked T'Pring coldly directly after their break.
