Oh, Canada (in canon)!

The flannel should match the division colors.

In Lower Decks they have the Parliament class starships. Judging by the only named ship of that class (USS Vancouver) I'm guessing that there's a Canadian theme they have going there. So there should be a ship of that class called USS Calgary, where the crew routinely dress in cowboy gear. But still in Starfleet division colors. :D

There should also be a USS Montréal where French is the language of the day (and I hear the bagels in the mess hall are delicioius).

oh, and on an entirely serious note: There should also be a Parliament-class USS Humboldt.

No! If they pick a year, however (and one relatively close in the future), it'd be one more way to spur them on - "According to Star Trek, this is our year!"

People got so excited when the Cubs made the NLCS in 2015 with the joke about them finally winning in the future in Back to the Future II. But then they won the next year.

This isn't the regular Kirk some how? Perhaps whatever they have to prevent invovles aliens blowing up Canada in such a way that it makes earth unhilabitable in an alternate timeline, but La'an is somehow shielded from the effect?

Just a wild guess.

Of all the Season 2 images/footage of Kirk released so far, only in this episode is he wearing a Captain rank and a different badge. So you might be correct.

Odd, leaked photos from the filming of that episode showed police officers with American flag patches on their uniforms, which would be rather out of place in Toronto.
Maybe that was for a different production, that just happened to be filming near by. Or they change locations at some point in the episode.

Captain Batel is Canadian. After the whole thing with Pike and Number One, she dumped his ass and got herself a real man.

Why would there be any doubt? It's not like nations ceased to exist when United Earth was formed. They just became part of a greater whole.

I mean, the USA still exists, so why wouldn't Canada? It makes no sense.
Because Canada isn't really a country, it's a series of provinces and ethnic enclaves.

It's more like the Austro-Hungarian empire, in that it's a series of different ethnic groups. And when I say ethnic groups, I don't just mean racial.

White people are divided up by language English-French and there's a steep divide between Anglos who are immersed in a more international demographic and those who are not. immersed in international environment isn't a political thing either. My cousin is an ultra feminist and her entire crew of friends are super white folk who love hockey and canoeing the great Canadian wild etc. Her brother is pretty much the total opposite, the vast majority of his friends are indians/hindu/muslim/sikh. He doesn't like Hockey, doesn't have any connection to his family's heritage or traditions and the list goes on. I enjoy visiting him and hanging with his friends because I feel like I'm in Dubai.

The point is your background has nothing to do with the culture you live in. It's the social climate your immersed in. So it isn't obvious to someone looking at statistics at a distance. Roughly 7% of the country is south asia, but about 10-15% percent of the population is immersed in South Asian culture. About 6% are east asian, but then anoth 15-20% live in areas that are heavily similar to east asian lifestyles, with tower living being the norm, high preferences for high cost recreational activities like snowboarding, and a amount of money spent on education. Native Canadians are 5% of the population, but about 10% of the Country lives in areas that traditional immersed in native environments with a much much tighter connection to living on the land/farming etc. And finally about 1/3rd of the country lives in French land, not just french speakers but Anglos who live in a partially french environment.

It's very very difference from the united states where the biggest cultural divided is your voting habits, with immigrants assimilating to the cultural quite quickly.

I think the “cultural” differences in the US are more than just voting habits. It’s a big country with a wide range of regional cultures.
It depends, on contrasted with where? And in what proportions?

Compared to Canada the US is very monocultural. One language/one common religion/ common entertainment etc.

Again they're similar if you ignore proportion, but proportions matter. The thing with Canada is that the majority white-christian culture is receding in social relevance. Like it literally wouldn't raise my attention if my local movie theatre was playing predominately bollywood films. I go to the dentist yesterday and 90% of the patients/staff everyone is speaking Chinese. And I don't live in the Canadian equivalent of New York or San Fransico. I live in the Canadian equivalent of Indiana.

There’s more to “culture” than race, religion and language.

Yes which is the point. White anglo Christians being immersed in a South Asian environment, is very different effect than a white christian anglo, living in an environment where everyone wants to assimilate to their culture.
