Lit/fanon inventions that became canon

VULCAN'S FORGE of "Yesteryear" (TAS) - Vulcan desert locale mentioned in DS9's "Change of Heart" and Enterprise's "The Forge", "Awakening" and "Kir'shara". The term "Vulcan's Forge" dates back to a Star Trek fanzine from 1969.

I wonder why Duane changed the spelling to T'Khut

Possibly originally a typo or misremembering?

The name "T'Kuht" was coined by Gordon Carleton (of T'Kuhtian Press fanzines) to explain the misleading TOS quote, "Vulcan has no moon, Miss Uhura".

Described as "Vulcan's twin planet" in the booklet accompanying View-Master's "Yesteryear" adaptation, "Mr. Spock's Time Trek".

Also, Duane and others asserted that the human name for it was Charis. I wonder if that originated in fanfic too.

Responding to myself here -- the name Charis for Vulcan's companion planet comes from Lora Johnson's The Worlds of the Federation (or at least that's the earliest source for it I can find). Interestingly, that book's depiction of the configuration of the 40 Eridani A system matches the screen graphic from SNW: "Charades" seen in post #21 of this thread -- a single inner planet, then Vulcan and its co-orbital companion with a moon around the companion (as seen in TMP), then an asteroid belt. TWotF does not depict 40 Eri B or C, though.

If canon Andorians really were quad-sexed, then by now some LD character would have made a semi-fetishistic comment to highlight Andorian biology

I remember being very surprised when "The Andorian Incident" (ENT) introduced Shran and Tholos, and Tholos seemed quite androgynous (in comparison to Shran and Keval), and seemed to flirt with both T'Pol and Trip. Tholos was still with Shran in their next episode.

Later in the series, we met Tarah and then Talas, both female, but they related to Shran in very different ways.

I found it quite easy to imagine them as a bonded group, even if the scripts didn't spell it out.
