Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

As I continue on this rewatch, I don't remember much of the final 5 episodes of the season, but I'm starting to wonder if they did T'Pring dirty this season. I know there is something with Spock and Chapel coming up but I actually like T'Pring and I hope she is back for Season 2. It was a shame it was Spock who decked that vulcan guy because T'Pring throws a good punch. That Spock Amok episode was actually good in a fun kind of way.
I'm not sure why they cast whoever they did for Stonn in SNW. From my point of view, they should've cast some massively overmuscled hunk that one look from the audience shows there's no way Spock can compete, someone like Joe Manganiello or if he's out of Trek's paygrade, Tyler Hoechlin or Jensen Ackles. Someone who with one glance you can see Spock has no chance against.

I think it'd fit the story better and it's not really inconsistent with TOS (worst case scenario just say Stonn slacked off on the bodybuilding in the decade between SNW and TOS)

Stonn is not exactly muscle bound so that would be an odd detail.

If the entire first season is on YouTube, then I think it would benefit them if someone on the PR team reached out to some of the more popular reaction channels.

Really, I'm surprised more (if any) streaming services don't do this. It's cheap exposure. Especially, if they're already offering the whole thing for free, anyway. Then the reactor can do the entire episode without worry of a copyright claim. And of all the streaming platforms, Paramount is hurting the most (and they're all hurting), so it has very little to lose and the most to gain.

Furthermore, assuming the academy show is going to be aimed specifically towards Z-ers and Alphas, it makes sense to preemptively develop a base, and SNW is easily the most accessible of all the shows to do so.

If anything, things like releasing the episodes on YouTube or even having physical media releases of the shows are areas where Paramount+ are actually making the right decisions. I'm especially surprised more streaming services don't do physical media releases of their shows, it seems a logical promotional tool. Release the preceding season on physical media at around the same time the new season is set to be released on streaming, with an ad in the DVD/Blu-ray box saying something like "liked this show? Subscribe now to [Streaming Service] and watch the new season."

Disney Plus has infamously never provided any physical releases for their shows, not even Mandalorian I believe. This has led to disastrous results with the small but dedicated Willow tv show fanbase who now have no legal way to watch the tv show after it was unceremoniously pulled less than 6 months after the series premiere from Disney Plus entirely. It's now like the show never existed.

WUT????

I'm going to pretend that post never happened. Or just assume it's a form of performance art.

It was in reply to my post and I was slightly confused as well. I didn't even mention Stonn and I looked at IMDB and he doesn't officially appear until the Squall episode. I was talking about the Vulcan T'Pring/Spock punched in "Spock Amok". I'm actually looking forward to these final 5 episodes from a T'Pring perspective to remember what exactly did happen to her and how the Wedding was called off.

You mentioned T'Pring and how she was done "dirty" and I had a different take on it and you really don't have T'Pring in this prequel story without Stonn. I was genuine in my post on how it all should go down and my idea on the type of actor they should've gone for in regards to Stonn based on my own real life observations but I had no idea it'd get the kind of soft mocking like @cooleddie74 seems to have in his comment. Sigh...

Facially the two actors are pretty close and they got Stonn's 2259 haircut down. I was honestly surprised that the SNW Stonn visually lined up so well with Lawrence Montaigne. Any difference in bodily build can be chalked up to there still being about eight years until the events of "Amok Time(TOS)."

I meant that they should've gone all out in making Stonn a hunk that Spock can't compete with, and female viewers probably would appreciate that too. As far as continuity with the much slighter build of Lawrence Montaigne, they shouldn't let that sort of canon issue get in the way of a good story and honestly it's not even a canon issue considering all the other cosmetic differences SNW has with TOS (they can just say Stonn stopped going to the gym for some reason).

Oh, you were talking about future events. Thanks for clarifying. I'm sure we will see Stonn in season 2 (I'm hoping we see T'Pring in season 2) so things might become clearer. Also, yeah Stonn wasn't all that physically muscular in the original. He actually seemed to be the introverted type, if I remember correctly.

Oh definitely. But I thought it would make more sense to make Stonn someone Spock wasn't to clarify T'Pring's preferences. It wouldn't be the first time they've changed things, after all M'Benga was just a regular dude in TOS and now he's played by a black belt in jiu-jitsu.

But this is all just random what ifs on my part, as you noted Stonn is already cast and they likely won't change that. At this point it may be better to focus on his "Vulcanness" that Spock lacks.

I get the feeling that when we do again see T'Pring and Stonn that the story will focus so much on Sybok that they won't do much else with Stonn's character other than remind viewers that this is the Stonn who'll eventually be wed to T'Pring after the events seen in "Amok Time." A few bits of development here or there but not much I'd imagine.

Oh Sybok, my ideas probably are out of the mainstream here as well. I know Shatner envisioned him as a religious evangelical preacher and with that sort of thing arguably more relevant now than it was in the 80s, I really wanted SNW Sybok to be the Trek version of the alt-right religious fanatics in our world today (and I've mentioned this in other posts as well). But considering his SNW debut established he's dating a non-binary character, something the real world religious fanatics would never do, that idea I had for him goes out the window as well...

I don't disagree with anything you wrote.

However, just having the episodes on the YouTube really isn't going to do much to promote the show -- or the franchise -- to non fans because it's not going to get filtered through the YouTube algorithm noise.

I've often wondered if Stonn actually stayed with T'Pring after he saw the way she 'played' Spock.
