Yep. He was, for all intents and purposes, an elf.

... not really. Nothing about his personality resembled that of an elf. He wasn't unusually wise or long-lived. He was a kid with abandonment issues as a result of Jean-Luc leaving Vantis and never returning, who believed in never lying as a result of his religious upbringing.

Elnor is probably the least traditional Romulan you can find to join StarFleet.

His unique up-bringing along with endorsements from Admiral JLP & Raffi & Rios probably got him in the door.

Heh…. My statement was supposed to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek. He looked like he could easily be a background character in Rivendell and wouldn’t even need to change his name. In fact, he could even be Elrond’s long-lost son and Arwen’s brother. That was actually my first impression of the character when I first started seeing publicity stills for season 1.

To be clear, I’m actually really happy that they gave him some depth and kind of bummed out that we didn’t see him at all this season. He and Worf would have made a more interesting pairing in S3, IMO, sharing their various philosophical views on pacifism versus combat.

Ah, okay. I thought you were making a serious assertion about him or something.

Yeah, that would have been a lot of fun. And it would have let them do more to develop the relationship between Raffi and Elnor, which would retroactively help sell why she was so broken up over his death.

Did anybody else pick up on the (maybe) nod to TNG Season 3 "The Defector" where Geordi is trying to describe to Data what it means to have a "gut instinct" about things during the scene when Data is trying to convince Geordi to allow him to fly the Enterprise-D into the heart of the Borg Cube? That jumped out at me.

Yup he will be long lived and was actually pretty wise for a kid. His sword play was pretty advanced. So yeah he's an elf.

While I don't agree Elnor is a direct comparison to elves, he does share some traits.

Long-lived - as a Romulan, they share very similar biologies with Vulcans, and we have seen Vulcans live well past 200. (Sarek died at around 204, which is considered fairly. Has Bendi Syndrome bot occured, he might have lived another 50 years of more.) I don't know about you, but living past 2 centuries qualifies aa long lived.

Swords - Elves use swords, and most fiction that depicts them shows this.

Pointed ears - self-explanatory.

Wisdom - mileage may vary on this trait. He was brought up with absolute candor as a trait, and I don't know about the rest of you, but I really value truth, honesty, and integrity. Some would argue not lying is a sign of wisdom, but again this is more subjective with people.

One can make at least a case that the elf comparison is valid, though I may not agree with it fully.

Absolute candor probably isn't very wise. Might look good on paper, but not in the real world.
