News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

I'm not trying to hate on it, my point was that no one here is likely to sign the petition to get it shut down!
My question is largely what do people expect? It's done exactly what I would expect; expose all the preconceived notions, positive, negative and everything in between, that people have towards Starfleet Academy, Kurtzman, Discovery and current Trek.

There is barely a paragraph of information, yet already we have a petition against it. If that isn't fandom in a microcosm then I don't know what is.

Yeah, I know! I can't imagine what that guy's daily life must be like.

There are things i like about what I've heard and things I dont.

I like: Finally getting an Academy series. This has been bandied about since before TMP. Glad they're doing it and getting it out if they're systems. I Iike Tawny being on the writing staff. She's just wonderful. I like doing something new and different, a'la DS9.i like that it's live- action.

Things i don't like: Not a fan of the 32nd century. Not only have i not seen anything that is really intriguing about it so far, but i feel like it will deadlock a lot of potential stories set in the 25th century. Just like you couldn't really throw Borg, Cardassians, and the Ferengi onto Enterprise, anything introduced there well have to STAY there. (And yes, I know the Borg and Ferengi were both on ENT, but the gymnastics they hopped through to not say anyone's name was just silly).

I agree that as great as i think Picard 3 is, it isn't a recipe for long-term success. That would be like watching Kirk fly off at the end of TUC and saying "Hot damn, now we need a new TOS TV series!". But i would like to see a new series in the 25th century. Ideally, a Titan series with Shaw, Seven, LaForge and the other new crew would be ideal to me. But just... something would be nice. It feels at times like they're bending over backwards NOT to tell too many stories about the post-Nemesis era

If Starfleet Academy is set in the 24th or 25th century Miles O’Brien can be in it. Also, they can cast someone as either Boothby or a similar character. The Academy will need a groundskeeper.

One thing I hope they change for Starfleet Academy are the current 32nd Century uniforms. They are monster maroons bad. Vance's Admirals uniform is okay as is the tactical one worn by Nhan.
That can easily be arranged, just don’t set it in the 32nd century. Problem solved. :nyah:

Back in the early 2010's, there were (and probably still are) hate groups on Facebook which featured thinks like JJ Abrams urinal targets and videos of people burning and destroying Star Trek 2009 DVD's.

The movie got 2 sequels and the kind of new Star Trek which those sad little beta boys start petitions over are still being made.

Oh well.

I think it's a real shame that every new series has to have a new uniform (which the sole exception of Voyager), as it doesn't work so great when they overlap. I think I can live with cadets in a new academy wearing something new though.

I know, right? Like, what was wrong with the TOS unis on Discovery? Why change them for Strange New Worlds? And why the need to change the Starfleet uniforms like 4 times in Picard?

and they changed the uniforms in Discovery Season 4 because they didn't film well against the Discovery ship sets.

They didn't change the uniforms between Seasons 2 and 3, they just added new variants.

Well, they did modify the cut a bit, but they're 90% the same uniform from Season 2.

Yeah, cadets have always had a unique uniform.

Why not? Can I look at it, know the division of the crewmember and rank quickly? Yes? Then it functions.

Uniform is as much about the standard of presentation as all wearing one thing, which real world militaries do not all wear the same thing for all occasions.

Well, they switched to the First Contact uniforms on DS9, so they got two, which I guess balances Voyager out.
