Remember the games back in the 90's like Starship Creator where you had the ability to "tour" the bridges of the TOS-E, the E-E, Enterprise-D and such?

I'd love a Starfleet Museum game like that today
I know some people on YouTube started mapping out the Enterprise D but paramount told them to stop it.

Indeed and it's what people are talking about. It's dominating the conversation, aside from the usual criticism of tech being wrong, or the villain being stupid.
While it was a bit much with the Callbacks. I could see it at the museum with all the ships. Made sense.
But at Daystrom that is where it was a too much. I get that it was basically a warehouse 51 type facility but running into a Moriarty program, data, Kirks final resting place , a tribble etc. All in the space of several minutes was too much.
Still enjoyed it though.

I read the Kirk thing as Matalas being a fan of the ShatnerVerse and adding as a fun little Easter egg. Maybe the novel side of things could have some fun with it. Start a rebooted ShatnerVerse perhaps.
kirk coming back would upstage JL on his own show. Abs his friends?

Spock went into the black hole

McCoy, Scotty and Uhura are almost certainly dead

Takei and Bill are not exactly best buddies

best you can do is a Renegades and have Admiral Chekov (who would still be VERY old) behind the desk at SFC

barring deepfake or recasts

Flashback to 2002: I'm watching Nemesis and I don't like it. We're getting to the end. Data's died. Riker's trying to remember the tune from when he first met Data in "Encounter at Farpoint" and says he can't remember. So they're remembering Data and they have Riker not remembering something. And only Troi cries. I get the "manly men don't cry" thing, but they needed some more of it looking like they're trying to hold back. Like Kirk at the end of TWOK where you can see he's just barely holding it together during the Eulogy. To quote Jammer, "Sometimes less is more, but this time less is less." So all those things bother me, but the main thing that bothered me was Riker not remembering something. Couldn't he have talked about something he did remember?

Present Day: It looks like Terry Matalas has finally corrected this and he goes out of his way to show Riker remembering to whistle "Pop Goes the Weasel!" So now Riker finally remembers! And good thing he did, or they wouldn't have been able to get to DataLoreM5B4LalAlton. Some people might think this was over-the-top "memberberrying" but I disagree. I think they corrected something I had a problem with at the end of NEM. Not a major problem, but a problem nonetheless that didn't help things at the end of watching Nemesis.

Terry had a whole list of things he wanted to address if he was only going to get 10 episodes to do it, and it shows. That doesn't speak to weakness on Picard's part. That speaks to the weakness of the way the TNG Movies left things. Picard had a mess to clean up -- let's be honest -- and it's cleaned things up masterfully.

It wasn’t a YouTube thing, it was an actual program built on the unreal engine that you could download and play (and still can if you know where to look). CBS sent a C&D shortly before or after they announced the Ent-D bridge DLC for the Star Trek Bridge Crew game.

Different program, that was The Captain’s Chair.

Why don't they just set off the Gensis device and bring back Kirk and whatever other legacy characters they want? I don't how ridiculous that sounds, I want it to happen! ;)

Someone opened up a closet door
And out stepped Johnny B Goode
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell
And lookin' like he should
Now if you gotta play at garden parties
I wish you a lotta luck
But if memories were all I sang
I'd rather drive a truck

"Garden Party"-Rick Nelson
Love this song. :techman:

As much as some ST fans desperately want the franchise to file a divorce from all things Kirk (some extending that to SNW), it seems to come back to--

:D

Having shows were characters and stories stand on their own rather than live in the shadow of the Man. The Myth. The Legend.

Oh, you mean this Man, Myth and Legend--

;)

To be honest, by launching the Picard series, the franchise was living on / in the shadow of old characters and references from TNG, so its not exactly sailing in uncharted waters, either.

No, indeed. It tried very hard to actually get me to engage with such an idea, and was moderately successful. But, putting up the original TMTMTL in the background ends up taking away from the actual characters in the show. It's an unnecessary distraction.

I did not like this episode very much.
It was way too much of a forced TNG reunion, contrary to the beginning of the season it didn't feel natural at all with everyone appearing all at once.

Second, at this point I'm really allergic to Easter eggs. Seven's monologue I loved. Everything else was just fanwank for me.

Third, the conspiracy plot starts to wear thin. The more all of Starfleet unquestionable follows these obviously evil orders, the more unrealistic everything feels. Not a fan of the "abandoned evil technology vault". That's comicbookb logic, not sci-fi.

But alas, one episode doesn't sour me on an otherwise fairly watchable season. This episode moved a lot of chess pieces. I'm really interested in where it goes.

My opinion of S3 in general will probably come down to if I like the conclusion of the main arc. Until then, it did what the previous seasons already failed at - it was quite watchable the whole way. I hope the next episodes will be more their own story, instead of everything being callbacks to previous ones.

Yes, Kirk, played at various times by three different actors.* That may well be WesleyKirk floating in that (presumed) tank.

They do seem to be teasing the possibility of reviving Kirk in the 25th century. If they do, rest assured that he won't be played for long by William Shatner.

*Do not give me that Janice Lester Kirk crap.

Geordi was being kind of a dick, IMHO.

I didn't much care for him and Sidney bitching at each other. Hell, Geordi himself was a helmsman early on, so why would he care if one of his daughters was?

Maybe he's just bitter that he's only a Commodore and is stuck in orbit of a backwater planet, curating the Fleet museum while all the rest of them are having adventures.

Because he no longer sees value in it. I use to have several jobs, but some I no longer see value in. If my kids wanted to pursue the same career I would discourage it.

People change. Especially after having kids.

Geordi may have been a helmsman, but that was a position, not his passion. Engineering was his happy place and what he aspired to be. Manning the helm was simply a job and duty to him until he was given the Chief Engineer post.

Geordi being a pilot in TNG Season 1 was brought up in The Ready Room interview, LeVar and co. came up with a interesting justification but I can't remember it now lol
