I saw this one late, only last night. F'n love where this is going. Ro's appearance didn't surprise me. Honestly, no appearance other than Shatner's would (mostly because there's no frigging way they'd be able to pay him enough :rommie:). These folks are so steeped in nostalgic callbacks and Easter Eggs, there's probably nobody they haven't thought to bring back. So when I saw Ro all the reaction I got was "hey, cool, Ro Laren." And what they did with her was lovely, honestly. Michelle Forbes brought her A Game and her scenes with Stewart were just a masterclass in acting.

Honestly, they can pepper me with cameos and callbacks all they want. If they really wanna get a whoop and a cheer out of me, they'll have Avery Brooks showing up in the finale with the prophets and then reuniting with Cirroc Lofton. Of all the ST relationships, that one needs closure the most. I would cry my guts out.

With Worf now in the loop and his word that changelings have infiltrated the Fed, assuming Martok is still Chancellor (and going by the "House of Martok" reference he presumably is still alive and thus still Chancellor) the Klingon Empire might be an option.

I think Fenris Rangers is a better bet.

The problem with both the Fenris Rangers and the Klingons is that they're almost certainly already infiltrated by the Changelings, too. With the Coppellian Androids, there's a lesser probability of Changeling infiltration because the population is so much lower that it would be much harder to go undetected. Also, presumably it would be hard for a Changeling to mimic whatever software connections they maintain with one-another.

The New Republic was infiltrated by Clawdites who ensured that the entire fleet was in the Hosnian system ready to be hit by Starkiller. The Force Awakens is going to be what happens if Picard doesn't stop the changelings' plans for Frontier Day.

Jesus.

At least when Lucas felt like he phoned it in, he refilmed the entire trilogy.

Sweet. 10/10.

I’m starting to buy into the idea that Jack was born with the syndrome that Picard had, and that Beverly tried to treat it with something changeling. She looks way too calm when Jack is telling her something is wrong. She seems to know more than she’s telling. Remember the changelings in DS9- they almost did anything to get Odo back. They seem determined to be “whole” and can’t deal with a part of themselves being separated.

The syndrome that hits after age 90? Seems like you might let time and medical tech play out.

This episode was great but if there was one thing I hated, it was the resolution of Ro and Picard's discussion.

"You betrayed me!"
"YOU betrayed ME!"
"Do you trust me?"
"...I do."

Having said that, I knew there was a surprise TNG cameo but remained delightfully unspoiled as to who it was and oh my gosh if I didn't squeal like a little girl.

All this season genuinely needs is to not be a goddamn stealth DS9 sequel starring TNG characters. I love DS9 more than anything on this planet branded Star Trek, but come on. Imagine this series with Sisko leading, Jake as the son with random super powers, Worf's handler is secretly Bashir, someone is an asshole to O'brien...

Another smashing episode, that's 5 crackers in in a row. I've even lost some of the trepidation that has preceded my watching of any Star Trek show since Discovery began. I look forward to it, I'm not watching it wondering what batshit nonsense they're going to throw at me next. It's like a completely different show. One that is exciting, well written, brilliantly acted, with superb emotional beats and an excellent spy thriller style story. Not only that, but the designs are better too, the starship designs, the graphics, everything - even the phasers and costuming.

Something must have happened behind the scenes. This is the show that Picard should always have been, and its unrecognisable from the rubbish that preceded it. Proper adult storytelling, wonderful call backs, epic music. The ending even brought a tear to the eye. It wasn't gratuitous like with Hugh or Icheb. It was earned.

Simply stunning. Whomever is responsible for the turnaround, I hope they are rewarded and that the streaming figures reflect the quality - though I fear the damage caused by Seasons 1 and 2 (not to mention the hot mess that is DSC may have driven the audience away).

They won't be. Not due to lack of interest but simply cost cutting measures currently employed.

Ah, I see that this season has "grown the beard" to borrow a TNG parlance. Fascinating to watch the reactions in real time.

..but the gene for it can be detected at an earlier age. Since JLP actually came down with the syndrome, it makes sense Crusher would have looked for the gene right away.

There isn't a gene for it. It's a "structural defect" that "could cause you to be susceptible to several kinds of neurological disorders", but "it's possible for you to live with this defect for the rest of your life without developing a problem". That to me sounds more like a developmental issue than something genetic – or else why didn't it show up on any genetic scans Picard had had throughout his life?
