Good bottle episode imo. Two nitpicks - if the son is supposed to be 23 the actor certainly does not look it lmao. Second the pot cannabis line was really awkward and felt forced.

I can't say I agree with folks who fear the season is paced as slowly as 2's was; I'm at the edge of my seat damn near every minute over here.

Fantastic stuff.
Yeah. There's a universe of difference between wanting more and being confused about what's happening.

The same folks that will cry for hours about the Discovery crew "talking about their feelings during a crisis" are going to have no problem with Picard and Son chilling in the holodeck while the ship drifts towards certain destruction-- and oh look the Captain of the ship decided to come to the holodeck instead of going to the bridge of his ship after he got out of sickbay. Oh and it's all lit like a nightclub. Great stuff.

And the changeling infiltrator just walks up to our heroes after they call out that the changeling should show up. Unbelievable.

Ok now I'm done.

PIC: We have an hour and there's nothing we can do. Let's end our lives properly, like talking to each other instead of listening to some gymnopedie waltz.
Yes, they caught the changeling when the changeling went where a changeling would go. Surprise!
;)

Cannabis has been used for both medical and spiritual applications for a considerably long time; one of the first was in the Atharva Veda, written around 1400 BCE. It isn't hard to imagine it'll still exist in the 25th century and beyond.
was it called pot since 1400 BCE?

"Did you have a family outside of Starfleet?" Love the double-meaning. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.

9.9 out of 10. A tenth of a point off for the skull thing. Other than that, great episode all-around.

I'll go into it more during a time that's not 4:00 in the morning, for me.

Oh, please. They had 24 hours during Season 4. :p

Reminded me of this :D

I am probably easier to please than most but again a solid 9 if not 10/10. Really appreciate the feel of bottle like episode that still made sense in a highly serialised series. I miss them. It felt like classic trek.

And I do really also appreciate them using a Beverly in a deserving way and not dumping her to the side now that the son revelation is over. Her putting the pieces together before anyone else was great and took the best parts of her character we got to see glimpses on TNG. I hope it continues.

Everyone was great. Shaw, Seven, Riker and Picard. I enjoyed the father son scenes even though I didn’t think I’d really would.

As for the more deeper plot reveals - it’s enough to keep me interested in the next stage of this story. Though I am more a person that watches Trek for the character side than long intricate plots. Not sure what is going on with Jack but I do hope it is something original.

The changeling imitating LaForge was too obvious. I'm used to changelings being smarter. Other than that, episode was great.

Not quite as good as last week but still excellent stuff. Will need to watch it again but in the interim...

Positives - Seven's "Out of respect" comment to Shaw. I've commented elsewhere that his (IMO petty and ridiculous) refusal to use the name by which she prefers to be called denotes he has no respect for her; good to see her call hm out on it. I still think he's an idiot but maybe this will lead to him getting over himself a bit.

Beverly working out what was going on. Really liked that she joined the dots before anyone else realised there were dots to join. The whole "new life" sequence was fabulous.

Riker's apology to Picard. I read somewhere that Frakes reckons he isn't much of an actor (or words to that effect), but he nailed that scene (and as usual he nailed the direction of the ep). He and Deanna beginning to mend fences was good, too. (Although I'd have liked some mention of "Hey, Beverly turned up! And she and Jean-Luc had a kid!!!" But anyway.)

Interesting point - well, that explains why Jack didn't knock himself out to get in touch with Picard. (Proved one of Beverly's points, too, but I know the mileage of others will vary. Each to their own.)

Negatives - Picard was not personally responsible for what happened at Wolf 359. Okay, Shaw was there and what happened was obviously ghastly, but it wasn't Picard's fault. (It wasn't Seven's, either.) Shaw is in dire need of counselling and how the hell he attained a captaincy is beyond me.

Off the scale brilliance - nothing in particular this week. Although the "new life" bit came pretty close.

So now Vadic is (possibly / hopefully) out of the way... What next? Who was she working for? Who the hell is Jack supposed to find? Who wants him, and why? (And other questions that will occur to me when I rewatch it.)

Now to see what everyone else reckons. Enjoying the hell out of this season so far.

ETA: Extra points and improved grammar.

It's totally consistent with Sisko's reaction to Picard in DS9. Of course he was not responsible but trauma makes you look for scapegoats sometimes.

Could troi on the view screen be a changeling since we saw the troi in the trailer still pissed off at Riker? I fear the Jack story line is a copy of the fake picard son episode of the past with Jack's visions

Only since the 1930's. It started as slang in the US, believed to be a shortening of the Spanish words “potiguaya” or “potaguaya".

The Shaw issues re: Wolf 359 are more in line with classic survivor's guilt as Picard is an external locus on which he can focus his blame and hatred of himself for surviving undeservedly over his crew mates and friends.

It obviously was against Picard's will but you could also argue that Picard getting involved with Q lead to them meeting the Borg which then lead to the Borg deciding to use Picard's knowledge etc against Starfleet on BOBW so Picard's fault in the matter is kind of indirect
