Discovery ending with Season 5

Ah poo. Such bad news. Even though I was already expecting this announcement after hearing the news about the cost cuts. Discovery made me excited to be a Trek fan again and it'll be very sad to see it go. And with the cost cuts, I guess this probably means we'll have to say goodbye to all the characters we've met and loved for a long time in live action, if not forever. I can only hope the final season will do their stories justice.

I'm not surprised. This show has not been good for canon and frankly has ruined a lot of trek. It also looks like season 5 won't premiere until 2024. So everyone has to wait another year. Probably for rewrites for a permanent ending. I hope they decide discovery is a alternate time line. I want a 25th century show with a new next generation with hour contained stories. No more of badly written arc based one story seasons. It doesn't work for trek most of the time.

SNW is already the episodic live-action Trek series. I see no reason to have two of them running concurrently.

I'd personally like more miniseries, hour-long specials and the like, but I realize there's a big sunk cost when it comes to sets and props.

I was expecting that. If it means we'll get a Seven on the Titan show to replace it, it's good news!

Agreed. I wasn't expecting it but it looks like kurtzman and company weren't either. Paramount probably finally looked at the numbers and it's unpopularity and decided to pull the plug and work on stuff that is working. I suspect the 32nd century will no longer be a period we will see trek series in. So thankful if we get a series sometime placed after picard in the 25th century.

I mean I wouldn't be opposed to an early 25th century show that doesn't have a direct connection to TNG, DS9, or Voyager.

Just like what tng did when it premiered. Let them move a few decades a head with all new characters. They'll know of the legendary crews but it will be 50 or so years after picard and just a whole new start. That would be cool.

These shows need to be different from each other, otherwise there's no point to having five of them. It's not my favorite, but I like SNW; we just don't need five series just like it.

So, whatever the next series is, whenever it takes place and whoever's in it, I hope it doesn't do the Traditional Format. But if it's all "traditional" for the foreseeable future, then that's what it is. These things are cyclical. I had my way several years, and now some of you will have yours, before it swings the other way again.

They said late 25th century; I took this to mean 80 or more years past 2401.
Yes please.

Some of us, like myself, really love Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks and would prefer those be left alone, thank you very much,
I don't see how having the next show being a standalone late 25th century show means that SNW and LD must be canceled.

Well, good run at 5 seasons. Probably be a tv movie or something like it either before or after the season.
I just hope and pray that the new academy series Is not in the 32nd century..:brickwall:

Yeah the 32nd century sucks.

I don't think I'd go that far. That said the 32nd century is very much Michelle Paradise's baby now. Unless another potential showrunner had a pressing reason to want to play in it, or they thought there was a breakout character with legs for a spinoff, I just don't see a pressing reason to stay there.

Edit: If Kurtzman sticks around and ever gets his "Avengers" Trek, they can always find excuses to yank fan favorites like Saru out of the 32nd century.
