While I would've preferred seven seasons, five isn't bad. But between DSC and PIC both ending, this is the end of an era for me.

I wonder how long Lower Decks and Prodigy will run now. Could season 5 be the end of LDs?

2D animation is cheaper than live action and 3D animation. I can see Lower Decks going a bit longer.

If the viewership numbers are there, sure. A lot of these companies seem to entering full-on panic mode, and I feel a lot of shows (like Lower Decks) will be under the microscope to reach some poorly conceived viewership number, so they might still get the axe even if they're cheap to produce.

This is a bummer, but the worst news is that it wasn't planned. The Disco writers have strengths, but adjusting serialized storytelling in response to changing production concerns is not one of them. They're terrible at it.

Disco season 4 really nailed it, and everything about season 5 sounded so promising. But ugh... I just can't believe an ending hastily conceived with some additional shooting will ever manage to satisfy.

    With Paramount announcing cost-cutting
, I highly-doubt they are going to rush to announce a new Star Trek series.

Can't say I am too disappointed, it was never better than just decent.

Plus I wasn't a fan of going to the 32nd century and boxing in sequential storytelling from the 23rd century onward. The stakes can never be Federation or even Earth sized again.

I wouldn't be surprised if the extra shooting led to two more episodes. In which case Disco would end the way it started.

Sure they can since we don't know what the Federation looked like in that century.

I agree. If DSC S5 comes out in early 2024, that'll be PIC's old spot.

I'd dig it for sure, but I would be surprised. Kurtzman and Paradise specifically said 'after 65 incredible episodes' in their announcement today. That doesn't mean it's impossible - they can't see the future - but I personally feel as though if they're already locking that total show number as part of a formal announcement, they're pretty dang certain season five still has ten total.

All I want is a late 25th century Enterprise show now that Disco and Picard are ending.

Cut the cord with the TOS and TNG eras and take us to a new frontier.

Sure, there can be stakes. The tension comes in how X will survive and not in if X survives.

They said late 25th century; I took this to mean 80 or more years past 2401.

I'm not surprised. This show has not been good for canon and frankly has ruined a lot of trek. It also looks like season 5 won't premiere until 2024. So everyone has to wait another year. Probably for rewrites for a permanent ending. I hope they decide discovery is a alternate time line. I want a 25th century show with a new next generation with hour contained stories. No more of badly written arc based one story seasons. It doesn't work for trek most of the time.
