Spoilers Season 3 wild speculation

According to gamesradar, Picard and allies from various incarnations of Trek gradually piece together a conspiracy of potentially Federation-toppling proportions, a threat that could have genuine significance to the franchise.

Raffi is apparently on the
hunt for a bioweapon for starfleet intelligence, with the mastermind behind it being Lore

and as others have postulated one of our heroes is
a changeling/shapeshifter

A minor spoiler for Shaw's background
He has past experience with the Borg, which affects how he interacts with Seven

I wonder if the "You guys aren't going to be dissapointed" reference is the fact it's a changeling, who, as we know from the Great Link will have Odo's memories and experiences and might reference them. Would be another nice in universe nod after the Eisenberg Class USS Nog

If one of them is a changeling, does that mean that the "real" version of the hero is being held somewhere? Or are they implying that the real version is dead and the changing took over their life?

TrekCore’s review has an interesting comment on returning legacy characters.

TrekCore said:
…though to control expectations I will say that there is only one unannounced legacy character who appears in the first six episodes. Well… maybe two (or is it three or four?)… but to explain more would be to go too far. But my goodness, the one character who does return is magnificent, absolutely capturing a whole episode with incredible scenes with some key TNG cast members.

I’m wondering if the “maybe two, or is it three or four” line refers to
Lore not just being Lore

but the comments about the returning character are intriguing.

Welcome back

Source? Respectfully, you might want to label that as like the most spoiler-y of spoiler-y things. Sounds like the potential episode 5 spoiler land mine.

EDITED: Let's assume that spoiler is true. I've heard many many things over the last few months about season 3 that I didn't post about. This is far and away a much larger spoiler than any of those. I'd really urge people that don't want to potentially know everything in advance to give that unroll a wide berth. But, if true, it'll likely get out again sooner or later.

I would say it's not completely impossible, but without any source, I don't really believe it either. Could be done in a way not requiring the actor though.

Bill Hunt, the editor of The Digital Bits physical media website and a huge Star Trek fan, posted on Twitter that PICARD season 3 is at least the best Star Trek since ENT season 4. Another good sign.

He retired from acting and doesn't really see the need to talk about the role any more.

My money is on it being either kira, Ezri or o'brien, possibly garak.

If they're keeping things in line with the current lit-verse at all, it won't be Garak. He got orb displaced in Second Self. (Though I'd be fine with ignoring that particular plot line, tbh.)

ENT Season 4?   Enterprise season anything? Anyway... I'm going to go in the opposite direction of what you think I'm going to go.

How about DS9 Season 7?

That's certainly within the realm of reasonable probability (say 50/50) if they're able to neutralize some of the land mines of PICARD season 1.

ENT season 4 is stuck with the "Storm Front" two parter, "Daedalus", "Bound", and TATV after all.

No, I know what they meant. But, if they want to compare PIC Season 3 to Old Trek, don't go for ENT, don't go for VOY. Have the stones to go for the gold. Compare it to TOS, TNG, or DS9.
Well, I still think it's damning with faint praise at this point in time.
