Talk about too many quips!

Beautiful film. Probably some of the most lavish scenes ever put to film.

But when he had the sword to Thor's neck but then began a monologue instead of stabbing, it was over for me.

Then, later, Jane sticks the Thunderbolt in his back but then pulls it out instead of twisting until he dies, it was over for me, again.

Loved the IMAX included presentation on D+ though. Just freaking glorious! And yes, the Love and Thunder meaning reveal was cute.

Taika Waititi has done better.

I think this film received different reactions based on your anticipation going in. As someone who despised Ragnarok, I was really pleasantly surprised and found it to be a big improvement over the previous film.

Age of Ultron and Iron Man 3 were shitty, but the movies around them were great, because it isn't the same people on every film.
To further the point, this is only a matter of opinion since plenty of people enjoy those films (like myself). There's something for everyone and no one is making anyone watch any of these films or shows.

So when someone says Marvel needs to take a break, what they really mean is that person needs to take a break from Marvel.

The size and scope of the franchise is rather unprecedented. I think it's quite possible now to have pieces that just don't interest some viewers and that's OK. Someone who really likes the Captain America movies may not like She-Hulk or Ms. Marvel or vice versa. I know when reading the comics not all titles out at any one time all appealed to me.

As I've mentioned I need to rewatch to give final judgment but it seems L&T is indeed a bit of a nadir for that lighthearted, quippy style of MCU movie. Looking at what's coming up though it seems the pendulum is starting to swing a bit the other way. I think for people that don't care for that the upcoming movies and Secret Invasion might have some appeal. Though if you go that route foregoing the rest you'll have longer breaks between new projects but that seems to be what some think is needed anyway.

I guess the "gotcha" is if the feeling is that all need to be watched to understand how everything connects together so people are watching things they don't want to just to not be left behind.

Marvel needs to take a break. This was just an overstuffed and underwritten movie. A lot of the humor didn't work for me at all. Thor gets dumber with each iteration.
It would be nice, but I pretty much took the break for it. There's no obligation laid on fans to watch all.

Iron Man 3 is monumentally underrated. People bitch about it because of the Mandarin twist and the kid sidekick, but neither of those things bother me anymore. The kid sidekick never did bother me, because he's only in the middle third of the movie.

As for the Mandarin twist, I admit that it got my knickers in a twist at the time, but now I see it as a brilliant plot twist and consider Trevor Slattery to be one of my favorite characters in the mcu.

I thought the twist was a fine idea on paper. The problem with it is that Aldrich Killian is a boring and repetitive villain whereas the fake mandarin Kingsley was playing felt compelling, weird and unpredictable. Bait and Switch only works for a story when the switch is *better* than the bait.

Hmmm… often, when reading critiques about MCU movie or tv series ‘over saturation’ , I come back to the nature of it’s source material: a comic book medium, of (mostly) monthly episodic releases, going back decades…

You do know not all the MCU movies and shows are written or directed by the same people right?

No. I don't have access to Google.

The only thing I hold against Iron Man 3 was missing out on Maya Hansen as the main villain as she was originally intended when Rebecca Hall signed on for the film.

Isn't the MCU still interconnected for the most part? I mean all these series on D+ are setting up something bigger, so if you want to enjoy a movie like The Marvels, seeing something like Ms. Marvel first might enhance that enjoyment. I think this is why I would like to see these D+ shows actually stay as shows and we get a second season of Ms. Marvel (With more episodes). If the MCU can branch off in different directions and not make it feel like you need to see everything to enjoy the big movies, then that should help with "MCU Fatigue".

I admire the fact that they kept it from leaking. Kingsley was a good sport and went on the talk show circuit prior to release saying "I am the villain."

I loved Iron Man 3, and the twist was one of my favorite parts. I can see why purists hate it, but Ben Kingsley is fucking hilarious as Trevor Slattery, so that helps a lot for me.

Sure, but most of it is still done in a way that you don't have to watch anything else, to follow a specific movie or show. My mom isn't interested in any of the D+ series, but she still came to see Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and followed it fine. You will definitely get more out of them if you see the related stuff, but you don't need to.

It is, now more than ever but it has fractured to a different medium and i'm not sure it's a good thing for the movies.

The movies may save time by not having to do too much character intro but i don't know if the general audience may be able to follow if they haven't watched the connected Disney+ show and the movie doesn't introduce the character well enough.
