Welcome to the modern age: sarcasm/snark is the new norm.
Give yourself 50 lashes with a wet noodle.Nope.
(Is this reply spammy? Can I warn myself?)
None of it is necessary. Star Trek could be a sterile procedural drama and someone could be sarcastic in it. Sarcasm and quipping has long been a part of Trek, and this isn't just an appeal to the Avengers/Marvel crowd but the audience in general.Don't necessary feel it is needed for Star Trek unless they want Star Trek to appeal to the Avengers Marvel crowd.

I still am failing to grasp when being sarcastic became something that was looked down upon as unworthy of Star Trek...?
As we all know, Star Trek is not allowed to be popular. It is a somber, genuine, deeply introspective on the ideas of life, the evolution of mankind, and it's infinite capacity for seriousness. Humor is not welcome here.2022, when Erica Ortegas became a popular character on Strange New Worlds.
It's like regular sickness but in space!*
*with all due credit to SF Debris and his sarcastic snarkiness.
Clara: Looks like a Japanese restaurant. Have you brought me to a space restaurant!
The Doctor: People never do that, you know.
Clara: Do what?
The Doctor: They never put the word “space” in front of something just because everything’s all sort of hi-tech and future-y. It’s never space restaurant or space champagne or space, you know, hats. It’s just restaurants, champagne or hats, even if this was a restaurant.
Clara: What about space suit?
The Doctor: Pedant.
"Well, isn't it lucky for you we just happened to be headed your way?"
"Spock, this child is about to wipe out every living thing on Earth. Now, what do you suggest we do, spank it?"
"Your child is having a tantrum, Mr. Spock!"
Even the super-serious, somber, introspective examination of the human condition allowed for a few quips to lighten the load.
It's not a modern age thing at all, it's been a thing for decades.

Have wardrobe come up with its own version for Star Trek: STARFLEET SARCASM DIVISION.I want Ortegas to turn up in an episode of SNW wearing the T-shirt that I saw a customer in my store wearing today:
NATIONAL SARCASM SOCIETY
"Like we need your support."![]()

Because people were never sarcastic/snarky in "ye olden dayes?".
You even see sarcasm and snark in literature from hundreds of years ago. It's part of the human adventure.
