Trekcore has posted a brief summary of Gates McFadden's Shore Leave Convention appearance today. She didn't give any S3 details away except that she was filming Picard from October to March suggesting she's basically in every episode.

Robert Meyer Burnett, who has despised this show (to put it mildly), has read all of the season three scripts and says it will be the best season of Star Trek television in decades. He compared the season to Top Gun Maverick.

Terry Matalas did confirm we'll "see" Laris in S3

however his tweet implied she doesn't play much of a role and it's known that Orla Brady wrapped filming around mid-September 2021 based on her IG (it's believed filming for S3 started in early September). Brady also hinted in her S2 interviews, it shouldn't be read that Picard/Laris did get together at the end of season 2, she said it was left ambiguous and while Laris sees JL has changed, maybe Laris had ultimately decided a romance wouldn't be the best course of action. So, regardless it seems Laris' role in S3 is going to be very minor

As for Picard and Crusher, I don't think they'll be together (at least not when the season starts) but I bet that relationship is going to be play a key part of the season. I mean the fact that Beverly seems to be in every episode and that it's just Patrick Stewart and Gates McFadden at Comic Con next week, suggests Picard/Crusher is going to be heavily involved.

Although this has NOT been confirmed, Trek Central is stating they believe Downton Abbey and Outlander actor Ed Speleers will be in season 3. Given Trek Central was correct about James Callis being cast in S2 so we'll see.

While I think RMB is kind of a nut (I know that's politically correct, but if the word fits...) but Terry Matalas liked and commented on his comments basically confirming that RMB has indeed seen the scripts

As much as I’d love for the scripts RMB claims to have to be fake and as much as I’d love to laugh about this, all these other previous leaks probably mean they’re the real deal and someone knows exactly where to place them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they all show up on Reddit or something at some point.

I wonder if he could be playing the villain. He did a very good job as a bad guy on Outlander.

Matalas described the actor playing the villain as someone "everyone knows" but who's never done Trek.

Speleers isn't a big enough name. He's not well-known outside of Outlander circles.

Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey) or Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) might be more along the lines of Matalas's description. Maybe someone from Marvel or Star Wars?

I don't think he's playing the villain (as already stated, Matalas hinted the villain was being played by a "name") and Speleers isn't really known outside of Downtown Abbey or Outlander (I only knew of him from the former, didn't know he was in the latter).

That’s why I suspect there’s someone who’s been spreading “classified” info around, and has been one for quite some time. RMB is simply the first guy who openly and blatantly brags about knowing things and who is noticed by quite a few people. It gets him attention, which is all he craves. He keeps tagging Matalas in his tweets about season 3, too - he clearly wants to rub it in that he KNOWS.

What I’m more surprised about is that he’s so friendly and seems to love everything (it’s hilarious to read how this riles up his base of PIC haters tho), but then, maybe Paramount simply went down the “keep your friends close but your enemies closer” road and said “look, we know you got your hands on info - how about you say nice things and in return we let you brag about knowing things without slapping you down - you get attention and we get some nice early promotion and can keep our secrets for a little while longer… deal?”

I think it's something else. I don't think it's a widespread leak. It has probably to do with his personal connections to people inside the production.

The comment about being steeped in Berman era Trek does not instill me with confidence. Berman Trek has had its time. It was good from about 1991-1999. But In my opinion, it went on far too long and was far too repetitive. I really want Picard season 3 to set its own course.

Agreed. I'd have been a lot less worried about season 3 pandering to purists if RMB had said he hated every second of it. That would have meant it's innovative, interesting and takes new approaches with the TNG cast and source material. The fact that he likes it simply means it's TNG season 8, the same old Berman era style, only with better graphics. (RMB even tweeted that they should just re-name things into TNG Season 8.)

To be fair tho, this return to what TNG was like IS what a large part of the fanbase has wanted from PIC from day one. And has been upset about not getting for two whole seasons. (I still very much doubt they'll be pleased now, though. PIC is still a show written by fanboys, and like I said before, one fanboy's dream is another fanboy's nightmare. They'll find things to nitpick and hate on, I'm sure.)

I get not everyone is going to like every incarnation of Trek and I’m more than okay with that. I’m also trying to maintain as open of a mind as I can. But honestly, RMB’s continued endorsement does little to help with that.
