Yeah, the angle of the model...makes legibility difficult. For now, anyway.
Looking at it in Affinity Photo...I want to say "NCC-1548"...?

The angle also obscures Rafiki raising up Simba as the new prince over Pride Rock.

PIKE: Ayuh. She's stuck in the mud real good. We'll need the tow chains, some logs. Maybe grab them two by fours under the porch. Give Jack a call down at the general store and see if you can borrow his truck. See if he'll bring a case with him. Maybe we can rock her loose a little. What'd you do with the DEET?

The Peregrine seems a little meh as names go. Can we imagine there was a USS Peregrine between now and the Federation that was really famous? The ship that saved Mars from Nausicaan or Kzinti invasion?

What are some names you'd choose for some starships?

The Shran or Andoria might be good to reaffirm the multi-species Federation. Or something completely new like the Teur-Adonh'. If we're looking at the Classical World, maybe the Antigone to go with a woman for a change. Maybe something like the Endurant to highlight a quality (like the Reliant), or the Venture to reach back into canon and to basically choose a synonym for "enterprise" if we're looking at Constitution Class names.

Having an Andorian name would be super cool! Kumari anyone?? :)

Why Peregrine? I like Odyssey and Seleyah especially from your list.

Peregrine has been my favorite bird since I was 8.

My personal head canon states that all "Starship Class" vessels are named after famous starships, so that would fit.

I remember studying them in middle school. I preferred them over the hawks everyone else seemed to like.

I think bird names work better for midsize and smaller ships. Peregrine, Falcon, Kestral, Merlin, Hawk, Goshawk, Eagle, Raptor, Sparrow, Cardinal, Bluejay, Bluebird, Heron, Finch, Goldfinch, Goldeneye, Swift, Sandpiper, Shrike, Swallow, Oriole, Blackbird, Harrier, Osprey, Starling, Nightingale, Robin, Raven….they could all work.

For larger ships I gotta go with something grander though. A principle, a planet, a mythical or real hero or figure.

And I love me some aliens. Gorkon, T'Plana-Hath, Seleya, Surak, T’Pau. They all work for me for ships of various sizes. Now give me the Saurian word for friendship, the Tellarite Lincoln, the Andorian Arthur…the Bolian de Beauvoir and the Medusan Medusa!

That's fair. Names are things I just like. So a ship's name is just a name.

Hey you think maybe the Captain of the USS Peregrine is Captain Pike's FWB from Episode 1?

Almost certainly. The moment I heard the distress call, I immediately thought that.

We'll get that one in the 42nd Century. After the Federation goes extra-galactic and solves the Kelvans' problems. ;)

There was a U.S.S. Shran namedropped in Discovery's first or second episode.

If it were three digits, they could just add a leading zero to make everyone happy ;)
