If I created something and then was fired from the production company or voluntarily gave up my ownership of my rights it'd be hard for me to claim I had any say over what my successors did with my creation. Oh, I can complain and I can express my discontent with the direction my creation has taken under new leadership but I wouldn't have a binding say nor should I expect to have a vote.

I don't think it was established that the trap definitively would go kaboom, if the wrong node were targeted. If the trap had been set by Captain Angel, then I expect they would have programmed it to shut down harmlessly no matter which node was targeted.

Angel was specifically appealing to Spock's human half, which was part of their scheme to manipulate Spock emotionally that they referenced later. In this instance, I'd say that the intent was to engender camaraderie, a feeling that they capitalized on later in engineering.

Nope, you're not the only one. Of all the new Star Trek franchise series, SNW is the ONLY starting credits sequence I DON'T skip. I love the visuals and the theme.

Nope. He came BACK to assist in doing TNG (they started without him but didn't like where it was going) BECAUSE they said he'd retain full rights to TNG (He didn't really want to do any form of Star Trek again, but the lure of merchandising revenue made him change his mind.).
    ^^^
That's also a reason WHY he wanted so badly to put anything and everything TOS related into the past, and make TNG the penultimate version of Star Trek going forward. He was VERY UPSET he couldn't afford to buy the Star Trek rights in 1969 (paramount offered, but he couldn't affords the asking price at the time) - and GR was VERY upset Paramount had been able to so effectively cash in on the original Star Trek while GR saw NONE of that after Network run profit.

^ While all that is true, at the end of the day, Roddenberry was only directly involved with three or four seasons of the overall product. Star Trek has, by necessity, moved beyond Gene's edicts.

Amanda let down that hair, slipped on the garters, and coyly left it to Sarek to puzzle out a way to make it all logical, thereby turning it into a mental exercise that turned him on even more...

Star Trek was built and succeeded despite Roddenberry's "vision."

KOV: Vulcan males are driven to mate once every seven years.

PICARD (as Sarek): I wanted to show you such tenderness. But that is not our way.

ah, the "you must be an absolute hater of all new shows because you criticize certain aspects with reasons and logic, while liking many other aspects, praising many parts, watching all the episodes immediately and several times, and rating most episodes highly" argument. can you find the flaw? ;)
also: provide at least some evidence for that claim ("new shows can do nothing right in your view") when you make it, please. otherwise it's just an unsubstantiated personal attack. read some of my posts in the new show episode threads. they're usually at the beginning, right after the episodes came out. hint: the opposite is true. I can make a plot of my rankings if you want :p

the book recommendations came after, right :D
but isn't it logical that she was already on that track before?
you could of course say that sex with spock made her even more curious - perhaps because typical vulcan sex is much less interesting ;)

It looks great, I especially love the moment with the colorful reflections on the hull. A friend recently said there could be ctenophore tentacles in the background, perhaps one of the Farpoint jelly creatures :D
But the music is very underwhelming. Only the theremin at the end is good

The assumptions around Vulcan sex are tiresome. What is with this preoccupation with fictional characters and sex? :brickwall:

These facts are not in question, but I struggle to see how these facts benefit your thesis. You claim that SNW has depicted Vulcans as "generally doing it all the time," yet SNW has only depicted the sex lives of three Vulcans so far.

What SNW has established is that Vulcans can and do engage in physical displays of affection (kissing, cuddling) and sexual intimacy outside of pon farr. It has so far only depicted this in the form of Vulcans engaging in such intimacy when in a committed monogamous relationship. This is consistent with prior canon, since we saw a Vulcan initiate sexual intimacy with a partner for whom she had developed romantic feelings in ENT S3 and engage in displays of affection in ENT S4. It is consistent with "Journey to Babel" (in which Sarek engages in public displays of affection via the finger-touch with Amanda) and with "The Cloud Minders" (in which Spock straight-up hits on Droxine and muses to himself on how she's hot). It is also consistent with TOS: "Amok Time, TSFS, VOY: "Blood Fever," VOY: "Body and Soul," and ENT: "Bounty," none of which ever precluded the possibility of Vulcans having sex outside of pon farr.

no, I didn't claim snw vulcans are doing it all the time. I noticed that many people here, fans, are convinced of that, and some use snw as evidence for it. others use trellium-addicted individuals to support their claim, which is similar to spock under spore influence, and therefore not general behavior, which some people then interpret as goal post moving, ignoring that the goal always was general behavior, which excludes behavior-altering spores and drugs.
finger-touching is a perfect example of typical vulcan romantic behavior. "it is agreeable to see you" and restricting their intimacy to fingers, is as far as they will usually go.
did the episodes you mention show or mention vulcans with more intimacy?
the claims we're discussing are not about whether they can, only about whether they do a lot, or don't do a lot.

and to whoever wants to label me as a new trek hater to dismiss my arguments, instead of addressing the points made, this is how I ranked new trek so far:

still think I'm a hater for whom "new shows can do nothing right"? ;)

We don't have enough sampling of Vulcans to state that conclusively. This is assuming, from a very small sample, that all Vulcans are sexually the same.

And it's wrong. Monolithic cultures is just dumb.

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
In Twilight, where Archer went 50 first dates, T'Pol stopped dying his hair blonde, and picked him for her lover.

The date, the year, the passage of time was what ever she told him it was. For the two of them there's no difference between 7 years and 7 minutes because one of them is lying and the other is a gullible twat.

Although they would have to time their love making carefully so that Jonathan's memory does not reset midcoitus.

I don’t see any “canon evidence” that they can’t have sex anytime they find logical to have it here. Only evidence I see is that Vulcans aren’t tender by human standards, but we knew that already.

it certainly came as a surprise to Spock.

    agreed.

I see no "only" in that sentence.

Because they suppress their emotions.

Strange New Worlds has shown it. Enterprise has shown it. The writer of the episode has said it. The Kelvin movies and episodes of TOS have implied it. Vulcans fuck.
