Well isn't that silly? If the second part is this year rather than last, sounds like two seasons to me!technically season 1 isn't done since it's split in 2 part of ten episode each
I think that was a deliberate move on the part of the creators...to have the characters starting from a more Star Wars-esque setting, as a way of luring in the intended younger audience and introducing them, along with the characters, to the world of Star Trek. It's weird but the show feels more like Star Wars than Star Trek, sometimes.
Yeah Trek has since the late 80s been at a bit of a disadvantage, appearing less "cool" than SW. I guess that's one way to dispel that.I think that was a deliberate move on the part of the creators...to have the characters starting from a more Star Wars-esque setting, as a way of luring in the intended younger audience and introducing them, along with the characters, to the world of Star Trek.

I just don't get the Star Wars comparisons. Feels more like Farscape to me, or Blake's 7 -- those were both shows about escaped prisoners commandeering a starship. There's also Firefly, where they weren't escapees but were largely outside the law.
If the idea is that Prodigy opens in a less utopian, less Starfleet-y setting than other Trek shows, yeah, Star Wars is one example of that, but one of very many.
It is more the look of the animation that is VERY reminiscent of Star Wars shows, especially the animated ones.
So, wish me luck. I am going to finally get around to starting this show today. I'm somehow in the mood for something very visually pretty and Prodigy looks like just the ticket.

The characters are really varied and fun. I didn't think much of the Protostar in still images but it's beautiful in fact. I love how it's used as something so familiar to the audience but so utterly alien to Dal and crew. To us then Janeway's appearance is familiar and comforting but to them it's frightening and strange.
I think I read it on these boards somewhere. Prodigy seems to be designed for a person unfamiliar with Star Trek but familiar with Star Wars.
Prodigy sets up a Lucasesque world and then smashes a great big cool bit of Star Trek into the middle of it, then uses the Protostar to transplant a set of Mos Eisley barflies into the wrong franchise.
Is anyone else surprised we haven't gotten news about Prodigy or Lower Decks returns yet other than what we got in January? SNW only has 3 episodes left, and we haven't gotten any trailers or anything for Lower Decks or Prodigy.
The target audience of the show is children who haven't seen Star Trek before. It's meant to be an on-ramp for new viewers. So for most of the target audience, Janeway and Starfleet are as unfamiliar as they are to the characters. That's why it was done that way.
At this point, I'm pretty certain Trek will be taking the rest of July off after the SNW finale airs. I'm pretty sure Lower Decks will be the first to return, with an August premiere. Assuming this is the case, I think we might be seeing something similar to 2020, in that August 6 premiere of Lower Decks season 1 wasn't publicly announced until July 1, and the trailer didn't come until sometime mid-July. I don't remember exactly when the trailer was made public, but I remember the Canadian channel CTV Sci Fi accidentally posted the trailer on July 11 on their website and removed it the same day. Likewise, Disco season 3's October 15 premiere date were made public and the trailer released on September 8. So with this in mind, it stand to reason we won't hear anything about Lower Decks or Prodigy returning until a month in advance. If anything, the advanced notice we got on premiere dates in 2021 was the oddity, and I suspect that was just their way of making things up to us for the lack of Trek programming in the first half of the year.I'm not sure where to ask this question but since I think Prodigy is coming back before Lower Decks, it might as well be here. Personally, I wouldn't mind maybe a month break for the Summer, but I'm surprised we haven't gotten news about when Prodigy or Lower Decks will return. There also isn't major Trek events other than the Las Vegas convention to really promote those shows.

I feel certain we will hear something about the next series to return the day of SNW's with maybe a trailer in time for Comic Con.
I was hoping Prodigy's first season would actually end this year. I guess they are doing 40 episodes but in 10 episode segments. That's kind of a weird format, and this isn't like animated shows of the 90s where they were on every day.
It's fairly common for animated streaming shows, though, to have a season released in two blocks. Netflix animated shows tend to have 13-episode seasons released in blocks of 7 and 6 a few months apart, or something along those lines.
As for the 5-days-a-week strip-syndicated shows of the '90s, yeah, we got plenty of content, but the animation was usually not that great because of the rushed production. I doubt Prodigy would look anywhere near as good as it does if it had to do 65 episodes a year.
