SNW truly respects TOS continuity!

Ah and it also showed up in Season 2.

Starships between 2256 and 2258 used holographic message projectors, however crude by 24th century standards. Pike had Number One rip out all the holographic communications technology inside the Enterprise and we don't see any more inside the Trek universe for a century.

So the creators listened to the vocal minority? What a shame

Meh. at that point in the season they were thinking about a Pike show and just bringing the Enterprise back toward some rough continuity with previous depictions of the ship and characters. They seemed to realize that the STD version of the 23rd century had been a bust, hence throwing Discovery ten or twelve centuries into the future in preparation for sealing off most of the show's influence on the Kirk era.

The holograms as seen in the first couple of episodes of the first season of the show seemed weirdly dated at the time, used as if there was some novelty to the idea and thus managing more than anything else to remind people how out of step Trek had been with stylistic and technological advances for the last three or four decades. A hologram was cool in the 1970s.

And in Star Wars and those movies. Although in that universe the holograms always seemed to be a monochromatic shade of blue with barely any other colors creeping through. Technology in the Star Wars universe, though, is noted for being notoriously static and barely changing over hundreds or even thousands of years.

It's kind of funny that both in- and out-of-universe, holographic communicators and displays are a perennial Star Trek fad, that only last for a little while before people decide they're more trouble than they're worth, and then, years later, someone takes another whack at them, to the same end.

In terms of honouring continuity. One thing I wish the show never does is make Spock and Chapel have sex. I think that would be a step too far and I would have to force myself to now think of the show as a full alternate reality.

I know this show felt it was important to explain why Chapel had a huge crush and was in love with Spock in TOS and sadly he could not return her feelings, so it make sense that something went on between them when they were younger as we are seeing now.

However the reason I want sex off the table is that , Spock in TOS would come off way too much like a jerk, unnaturally cold and an asshole, if he had sex with a woman when he was younger only to ignore her now at an elder age as we see in TOS, a woman he sees everyday, but not only that , he let himself sort of fall in love with Leah again and Zarabeth for real, while Chapel just mopes around and gets soup thrown at her in TOS from a man she once had sex with when she was younger.

I know in this day and age hollywood says you must need sex to prove romance but for star trek I wish they dont go that route here with spock and chapel because these are still the same characters in TOS.

I think maybe the story I may find plausible is that Spock goes into pon farr in SNW and Chapel helps him out and they keep it a secret, and maybe this is the reason chapel never got over spock as we see in TOS because of that ''awesome one night'' she had with him.

The show runners have already hinted that Roger Korby (Chapel's fiancé) will show up. I also expect Leah Kemoni will show up soon. I dont think SNW can ignore Leah because the side of paradise is a very important star trek episode. However, Whenever and whatever time the spock and chapel relationship ends in SNW, I hope at least Chapel still has her self respect and independence all together and did move on.

I am not the biggest fan of the star wars prequels but at least George Lucas new how to tie up the Anakin and Padme story that played well to the original trilogy. I hope SNW keeps that good patern with the spock and chapel dymanic, even if a part of me wishes they had done it in the last season of SNW then the first seasons because one thing I know about TV Writing is that many couples that are hinted or get together in the earlier seasons are never the end game and SNW so far is doing a good job reminding us why it never worked out for spock and chapel...maybe way too early.
