One of my favorite moments of the episode.

Upon a second watching I actually found Ortegas' quips less annoying due to Pike's exasperation to them.

I love Lt. Quips, but at this particular moment I felt just like Pike. What a great comedic moment!

There are way too many changes in visual, story and character canon. It really doesn't fit well anymore.
You really should stop thinking so literally. If they can retroactively change events, they sure as hell can change styles. As discussed earlier the TMP Enterprise, inside and out, doesn't match the earlier model and sets, and yet no one today is screaming their head off at the break in continuity.

Best to just accept that things change and just enjoy the show.

For me, she's somehow so much more quippy and smirky than Tom Paris, but soooo much less annoying. Tom's jabs always felt really forced.

I love Lt. Quips at first she had too much of Gen Y/Z vibe going on (and still kinda does) but it's starting to click with me. Her snarky moments sort of seem to be her mechanism to cope with stress. (And when we get her focus episode with her tragic backstory/character-defining moment we'll learn how and why.)

Some TOS technologies are obsolete compared to today. You really want them to make the future of today's fiction look dated right now?
Very obsolete. The limited functioning of the computers, the very slow processing speed, and the limited storage of data all spring immediately to mind. Just watch Spock fake orders and audio to the Enterprise in the "Menagerie." Then look at Deep Fake audio tech today.

Now, excuse me, I need to go back up my laptop to a floppy disk.

Hell, Kirk himself used floppy disks. (Well, they kinda looked like 3.25" floppies.)

Why does it always have to be some tragic background? Can't have a good family, good childhood, just wanting to be a pilot because her mom was one and is Still Alive?

My view is on SNW's design is still that as long as the show stops before TOS starts, there's always room for another refit. Or not. That way fans can imagine any kind of TOS they want! Maybe the Original Series adventures look just like those old VHS tapes, or maybe they look like SNW's reimagining, it's up to you! Everyone's happy... except for the people who really want that Kirk series.

I mean the Enterprise doesn't even look like it did in Discovery. The corridors and crew quarters are radically different. They could easily be changed again.
