Sybok may be the black sheep of the family but even black sheep crop up in conversation from time to time even if unintentionally. Sybok was older than both Spock and Michael and may already have been rebelling by the time Spock was coming of age and Michael joined the family, possibly even gone and banished for seeking out the knowledge that Sarek, teachers and others had forbidden.

Spock did describe Sybok as "a young student." Sybok could have been a teenager when he rebelled and was cast out of Vulcan society, which means his disappearance from the family could have happened as early as the mid-to-late 2230s, which was around the time Michael was adopted.

I was thinking, I'm not saying that World War 3 was a good thing for earth in the Star Trek timeline but I feel it may have been needed because the only way for humanity to mature was for everything to get torn down (which literally happened) so it could all be rebuilt into a united earth that was ready to start exploring the stars. I really believe that if Zephram had invented warp drive before World War 3 happened (as well as First Contact happening before WW 3) it wouldn't have united the world. There was no way that the way society before the apocalypse was was ever going to truly change.

Now, for the earth-like society in this episode, it was good that they were spared a devastating world war before it could ever happen so that they could instead unite to start exploring space but my question is is this society mature enough to completely stop fighting each other even after they build a fleet of ships? Just because those two leaders put their differences aside doesn't mean that it won't take years and years for all grudges and hostilities to completely subside. I'm just worried that all that would happen is instead of fighting each other on their planet, they would just start fighting each other in space.

Maybe, however the UFP has a tradition of using their ambassadors to negotiate peace deals for non UFP members if they make the request.
Like Pike said, if they still choose to blow each other up, then so be it. If they meet the Klingons, Gorn etc in space they will start running to the UFP for assistance.

Memory Alpha says that in SNW, Sam Kirk has already met and married Aurelan, and Peter has been born. There's nothing in the actual episode about this, so where did MA get that tidbit?

Are they just basing this whole thing on Peter's (apparent) age?
