Further, the mantle can be transported with less complex molecular resolution, transporting people requires quantum resolution.

That is in fact what the episode itself is saying. Or, as M'benga put it, they've traded old bigotry for a new one. They being Starfleet.

What? TNG and VOY writers took it as a BADGE OF HONOR that they never watched TYOS (Per GR's direction) - so why would they reference augments in any of the utter cray (which TNG "Unnatural Selection" was IMO) and my stance of VOY is well known <-- It's all crap. :)

But yeah, just because Berman era writers ignored TOS canon - doesn't make TOS "Space Seed" non-canon. ;)

Dude, calm down. There was no dishonesty on my part. Nothing in your post changed the claim that she's an alien, so I didn't include it for convenience. I'm simply remarking that nothing so far suggests that Una, and by extension the Illyrians, are anything but human.

It's a particularily obnoxious behaviour to automatically assume that any disagreement or misunderstanding MUST be deliberate.

The last season had an extreme bit of stupidity involving the environmental suits only filtering out things they recognized.

Ah, yes. But that's 32nd century tech. 23rd century tech was much more reliable.........

I'm not assuming 'disagreement' per se is a problem her - taking a statement completely out of context is my issue with what you did. I DIDN'T just simply claim her character is an alien. Even when I 'edit quote' others posts, I quite the entire relevent statement of theirs that I'm reply to IN CONTEXT.

I find your style of quoting in this instance both intellectually dishonest and obnoxious. If you want to disagree with a comment I made - fine - more power to you, but don't misquote or take that comment out of context either - which is EAXCTLY what you did here.

It looked like a dummy stand-in, to me. Only a (very skinny) ass and legs, no upper body seen dangling on the other side.

Again: calm DOWN. To me, what I quoted WAS the relevant statement. The rest had, in my understanding, NO BEARING. So I quoted and responded to what I thought was relevant. If you think I made a mistake, then by all means correct me, but don't accuse me of dishonesty.

Another fantastic episode and it can’t get more TOS than this. 9.

Nitpicks: so the ban on genetics is federation-wide and not only related to humans. What about denobulans, then?

The CGI in some places looked remarkably unconvincing and videogaming. Still I’ll take this to the monotony of the DSC and Picard palettes.

In one of the later episodes of the last season, their suits didn't filter out the feelings chemicals because they weren't programmed to recognize them. Something like that. Instead, they'd be programed like the bio filters, exclude anything unrecognized.

It's actually not difficult using the fireman's lift.

Notice how Denobulans are never seen or mentioned again after Enterprise? They're not even confirmed to be in the Federation.

Ah! I thought you were refering to something earlier in the series, and since I only watched it once I couldn't recall. Turns out I saw that less than a week ago. I did find that weird at the time.

From what I understand genetic engineering is not illegal when it comes to medical reasons but only if you want to enhance yourself and I thought it was only for humans and not aliens so I am a little confused.

Also the fear is based not just on what Khan and those people did in the past but that parents would feel the need to enhance their children to keep up. Basically a fear of the world becoming like some Trek version of the one in the movie "Gattaca" so the compromise law was to ban people who have been enhanced from joining Starfleet and a few other things thought they don't mention what those other things are.

My impression in the 245th century this must be a Roe vs Wade hot issue along with artificial life rights, balancing different laws between all of the 130 plus worlds in the Federation, Romulan settlements, Borg fear, Prime Directive allowances, Rebuilding after Dominion War and protests to have Janeway arrested for her cold blooded killing of honorable, super kind Tuvix who would never even hurt a fly.

That would make sense, but Illyrians seem to specifically use genetics to adapt to new environments, which -- you'd think -- would be more accepted by the Federation.

It's Section 31's fault. They hate all augments because, um, they can.

That was "The Masterpiece Society" where he saves that genetically engineered society from a Cosmic Core Fragment I think it was called. He was talking about how in essence they lost much of their humanity by creating a society were everyone is born with a destined role in it. The idea of the unknown elements of life is a important part of being human.

They should hook up with the Tal-Shiar, who hate all synthetics.

Between this and Picard I'm not understanding why there's a Eugenics Wars/Khan reference practically every week now. Didn't Trek go downhill because all they kept trying to do was rehash Khan?
