Well, catering to fans in the ways that they insist they want would certainly be a great way to lose a lot of money.
They moved on. Who cares?
Uhura and Chapel are turning out to be marvelous characters. The smart thing the producers have done is that bringing in so many familiar faces they get the show up and running right away. The pilot had less of that "show the audience where the bathroom is" nonsense than any Trek show since the original, and was more of an in media res story, which I very much prefer.
Anyone who doesn't already know all about Star Trek, or doesn't know who Pike and Number One and Spock and Uhura etc. are, is not gonna discover this fifty-year-old thing and tune into it on a minor streaming channel anyway.

Neither does this one, but what I see time and again around different Trek chats is "Where is this character or that character?" And while I don't think that has much sway I think it informs the conversation of who to bring alongside.Not THIS one.
The otherwise is more of a matter of what a prequel does too. A prequel is basically to give information so that an audience might be able to go "Oh, I didn't realize." So, bringing on Chapel and M'Benga makes sense because these are characters we don't know a lot about and will be present going forward. At least it makes sense to my mind.

Ethnicity vs. nationality.
I know, I was being a bit willfully obtuse. It just seems that for some, of all the physical differences in any recasting (height, eye color, etc.), a change in ethnicity is a bridge too far for some reason. It’s just a new guy playing the same role, as happens on Broadway daily. Edit:Thank you, Serveaux, I didn’t realize he identifies as Asian-Canadian, my bad!

Yes, indeed. Recasting to a different ethnicity is considered quite wrong for some reason. Watching any sort of theater would be very difficult if that was the case.
On Roseanne they had two Beckies. Later in the "final" season they switched Beckie one and Becky two half way through an episode to %%ck with us.
On Boy Meets World the little sister was played by twins, 15 years later on Girl Meets World, both the twins still got to play the same girl together at the same time, and the "characters" didn't act like anything fantastic was happening.

The role of the little sister on Boy Meets World, Morgan, wasn’t played by twins, it was the same type of situation as Becky on Roseanne, just a traditional recasting with Lindsay Ridgeway replacing Lily Nicksay from the 3rd season on.
Are the same people saying it's a different Kyle awaiting a transporter malfunction episode that'll turn April into a white, British guy?
Well, Kyle (no first name) still has the reasonable explanation of just being a different guy, including the fact that a LT now should not be in the same role years later on Kirk's Enterprise. April doesn't have any explanations like that and couldn't reasonably be a different person, so to keep true to their supposed claim of "Prime" you would have to see an incident like that occur at some point, whether through a transporter accident (which may or may not be connected to transporter operator Kyle hahaha) or something to do with an undercover job, DNA scrambler, genetic modifier, etc. (Not that anyone expects this to actually occur in the modern day, but is one of the only possible handwaves for everything being Prime.)
I wish none of this was necessary, and that they had gone away from claiming "Prime" years ago, or at least separated "Prime" from "60s TOS" - embracing a full reboot would have just given them more opportunities with less room for complaints, and the eventual "crisis on infinite earths" style crossover where they interact with the 60s aesthetic would have been the biggest, hypest, most beloved, most exciting crossover ever thought of.
It's all the justification required for you. This nonsense would've ended ages ago if everyone would just agree I'm right and share the exact same opinions as me! 
It's T'Pau all over again. At least Kyle won't have been recast twice.
Because Kyle was such an essential character. TOS wouldn't be the same. We all know this.
