For all the Vulcan telepath talk, they're strong enough telepaths that Sarek was able to cause significant emotional issues amongst the D's crew when he came onboard.

You are in the elite 0.5% Club in the "Rate the Episode" poll. Congratulations! It's gotta be lonely there, but Gene would be proud that someone is taking on those "bright, white corridors" that so brazenly shine against his vision of the future!

    Sigh, I'm watching it again.

It just feels good too watch a new Trek that makes me feel good and, like, I'm watching a form of Star Trek I can enjoy and maybe love.

That's how I hope to feel when I finally see this. DISCOVERY turned out to be such a disapointment. I hope this show is better.

I like a lot about Discovery, especially now that they've leapt forward, and S4 seems to be ending really nicely. But there's so much persistent grief-filler that it saps my morale. A more positive iteration is welcome. Hell, I'm finding LD more likeable than DSC.

Dr Boyce was CMO on the Enterprise five years earlier; plenty of time for a new CMO to be appointed. Anyway, Dr M'Benga already appeared in two TOS episodes, he's not new.

As someone who doesn't like Discovery and feels it pretty much fell over its own pants right out of the gate (episode reference!) and continued to fall over them, am not crazy about LD and only take Picard because of, well, Picard. (Haven't watched Prodigy) SNW feels like home, in the ballpark, and just a Trek I've wanted since ENT ended.

I am liking this new show a lot more than I though I would so far. It’s kind of giving me what I want without my realizing that I wanted it.

    • The characters and chemistry have hit really well right out if the gate
    • I love Pike. Fantastic stuff from Anson Mount. He has a weird way of being an “everyman” Captain who also commands absolute respect in a very believable way. I also really like the leftover fear and confusion he has to deal with after his premonitions on Boreth.
    • The new Uhura is absolutely magnetic. This was a great showcase episode for both the beloved legacy character and the new actress.
    • Everything looks amazing. The sets, props, uniforms, makeup, vfx….it’s all a feast for a Trekkie’s eyes.
    • I have to admit that I’ve quickly come to embrace Ethan Peck as Spock. I always tried to convince myself that Quinto was a good Spock, but Peck has it nailed down pretty tight.
It’s waaaaay too early to declare SNW in a particular ranking with other franchise series. That said, it’s like they took some of the best things about TOS and modernized it just enough to still have the right feel but not over-do it…and I am admittedly really digging it right now. Both of these episodes have been highly enjoyable, I like all the characters so far, and the music and visuals are just too much awesomeness.

I feel fortunate that I've managed to appreciate all five current Trek shows, in their own way, but only SNW so far really feels like classic Trek. Let's see where this goes.

The TOS-like music in some scenes of the premiere episode almost had me giddy. They really did their homework going into this series.

I love DSC and PIC for not being classic Star Trek. And I think I love SNW for being very much classic Star Trek.

It’s like I can appreciate all of them because they ARE different. If we had 3 series that were all like SNW, we’d be back in the burnout mode of the late 90’s.

Well put! It would also make SNW stand out less if every show had the same tone, vibe and style. IDIC is alive in the Star Trek franchise more than ever before.
