In terms of human linear time Pikes crew has met Trelane first even if they didn't get his name. Im sure Pike made a captains log about the incident.
Wouldn't have been a very interesting log entry. "An energy being showed up claiming to be the Andorian wedding planner's father, and that the wedding planner was in fact an eight thousand years old energy being himself. The two of them left and we proceeded to dance to Wham's Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go in celebration of the Federation's centennial."

I can absolutely see Spock connecting the dots immediately after Kirk's return and his explanation as to how Trelane was taken away by his parents. But before that I don't see any way he would have automatically connected the two incidents.

Though Nimoy said if he had it all to do over again, he would have fixed those "inconsistencies" and been unemotional (or the later Spock). That's one thing I wonder as the series goes on--what would Nimoy have done? He was very protective of the character (in "The Naked Time" he wouldn't let a mustache be drawn on Spock's face by an infected crewman--that's how we got that wonderful scene in the briefing room).

I'm not saying it's wrong to do what they are doing with the character of Spock in the series (though I still think of it as an alternate universe), but I do wonder what Nimoy would have thought. Though he might have just repeated his words about canon being only for the persnickety.
Considering Spock's childhood and his relationship with his father and foster sister, his inconsistencies are no surprise. Some children of mixed heritage in the real world have their own cultural conflicts, so imagine the same for a fictional child whose parents are from two different species, especially with Sarek as a father.
No wonder Sybok rebelled, and he was fully Vulcan.

I watched it last night. Halfway through, I found myself fast-forwarding a few seconds at a time through some of the scenes just to get to the end quicker. I really like SNW and try to watch it with an open mind. However, I really didn't want to watch an episode in which another recycled TOS villain screws with the crew . . . and then they all hug it out and dance to Wham! :wtf: This stinker will definitely not be making it on my rewatch list.
Jeeze, lighten up and have fun.

Especially given that Spock hasn't really found acceptance on Vulcan or with humans. He gets conflicting information, while being told to honor the Vulcan way.

Spock has a computer like brain. The use of the phrase "Tally ho" would have been a dead giveaway he was dealing with the same entity from 2261 when he encountered it in 2267.

The whole point of the episode was Spock realizing that in spite of what he felt, he intellectually recognized that Korby was actually a better fit for her. Or at least, that was what Christine felt, and he accepted that.

I expect Spock getting "over her" will take longer. It might be part of why he ultimately decides to purge his emotions by the time that TOS proper starts! I think that's a good way to have things framed, at least.

Nicely put. I've seen a lot of posts in this thread and on Reddit saying that this is the demarcation point where the relationship is totally over and Spock moves on. I completely agree with you that he has intellectually accepted Korby and Chapel's relationship and won't actively fight to be with her but I think that's different from moving on from the situation. That's a pretty serious heartbreak which is compounded by the Korby being on the ship and shoved in Spock's home and workplace. He seems likely to become the third wheel which is horrible. Christine is hopefully not over him (given where we know TOS is going) and is trying to move on thanks to Boimler. This seems to leave a lot of messy and intense feelings to be picked up across the season. Hopefully we'll at least see unresolved sexual tension and strong feelings.

Yeah. I found it strange at the very end Chapel was acting like meeting a omnipotent being was old hat...
At this point it WAS for her.

- The entire crew and ship (including Christine) was transformed into a Fantasy land by an Energy Being

- Ortegas, Uhura and Herself had to talk an Omnipotent Energy Being into helping them all undo what that Being had done to Spock after a Shuttle accident.

So yeah, it's nothing new for her at this point. :)

For the record, Chapel wasn't seen in "The Squire of Gothos" so she may have known precious little to nothing about the incident other than Kirk and some other officers briefly vanished from the ship and had to escape the clutches of a rather bizarre alien being. Which, you know, is kind of most of TOS when you think about it so what would have stood out upon first glance?

Spock wasn't shown with that type of Brain until well into TOS Seasons 2 and 3. In TOS S1 he definitely didn't know everything and wasn't instantly recalling facts a lot of the time; and hell he could never beat Captain Kirk at 3-D Chess, ever. :)
