More like a standard airplane steering apparatus.

And I'm glad. Flying something that small, you'd need a more tactile interface.

Gotta say, I'm digging the shots of the Enterprise that call back to angles used in TOS.

And that extended scene of the ship flying through the comet fragments complete with micro impacts on the shields.... *Chef's kiss*

And they made the Aliens generally threatening.
3x Alien Torpedoes brought the Enterprise's Shields down to 50% is impressive.

Considering how long the USS Enterprise lasted against Section 31 in that large Drone Battle at the end of DISCO S2, that speaks volumes on the offensive fire power of that Alien species.

Their Shields needs to do some work, considering how the USS Enterprise was able to one shot and down their engines / weapons momentarilly.

Nice. It's preTOS, postENT. Works for me.

Standard Flight Yoke from Commercial Aviation & Dual Engine Throttles with LOTS of Chrome plating for some reason.

Maybe it's a callback to the 60's where they Chrome plated everything on Automobiles?

What? It's the 23rd Century version of the old Cessna prop plane. ;)

    Ain't broke, don't fix it.

No need to reinvent the wheel.

Countless pilots learned how to fly on a classic Yoke & Throttle with Foot Pedal Rudders.

Keeping them around might ease training transition from AirCraft to SpaceCraft.

It makes the prop more futureyisticish.

Like Sulu knew how to fly a helicopter?

Wouldn't be surprised if Sulu learned to fly a Helicopter in his younger years.

The only 'problem' would be that by then, fossile fuels shouldn't be around anymore and we've all moved on to renewable energy sources. But there are work-arounds for that. Different energysource or something.
But yeah, considering how people right now still love to work on and fly old planes and cars from the WWII era, I don't see why an aviation-enthusiast like Sulu wouldn't have jumped at the chance to fly anything.

Yeah, I'm sure they retrofit 20th/21st Century vehicles to run off of some kind of advanced battery system that's environmentally friendly. Probably the real enthusiasts add some kind of device to try to safely re-create or simulate things like the noise levels of vintage technology.

Sulu learned how to fly a vehicle similar to the Huey when he was at the Academy.

    PILOT: Hi!
SULU: Hi! A good-looking ship. Huey two oh four, isn't it?
PILOT: Right on. Do you fly?
SULU: Oh, here and there. ...I flew something similar back in my Academy days.
PILOT: All right, then this must be old stuff to you?
SULU: Old, yes. But interesting. ...Do you mind if I ask a few questions?
    PILOT: Sure!

Spock's shuttle is named the Galileo. The name can be seen above the mother ship's name at the bow of the shuttle. The name's script and color are similar to what was seen in TOS.

"Something similar" 300 years later could've been a single-stick hovercraft for all we know. Sulu was probably just being vague anyway.

Kovich during the Burn: The Federation hasn't gone backwards technogically this far since the Great Tech Regression of 2265. Rumors are that James Kirk himself had to be sedated upon realizing that resource shortages meant the ship he inherited from Chris Pike ended up looking built from cardboard during the refit.

What if they rereleased TOS with CG set upgrades to close the gap between SNW and TOS?[IMG]

They should rerelease SNW with CG set upgrades to look like that!

I find it kind of funny that the 'Archer' is essentially a Kelvin-universe design (blue nacelle cap, bright gray hull, organic shapes) and not a DISCOprise design (black hull, red caps, blue line along nacelle, sharp angles & straight lines).

I mean, I like it. The boring DiscoPrise is one of my very few complaints about this excellent show.
