FYI: The Slashfilm review has episode descriptions and spoilers for the first 5 episodes in case anyone is interested. Each episode's plot is specifically discussed. There are some major plot and character spoilers so proceed with caution..or if you're like me..Enjoy!
I like and endorse this, from the Slashfilm review:
The inclusion of familiar names seems to be enough for the show-runners, allowing them to eschew the usual "legacy sequel" story beats that have become annoying common in the Age of Regurgitation; There are no loving closeups of Starfleet badges or communicators. There are exteriors of the Enterprise, but they do not descend into vehicle fetish.
Although "Strange New Worlds" is a direct expansion of known Trek lore, the showrunners seem to have finally dropped the foolish twin pop philosophies of "We're doing this for the fans" and "We're reinventing everything." They found an old recipe, and it still tastes good.
Do it for people who aren't fans. That's how you make new fans.
I only read the first two reviews there, because I've seen those shows and honestly don't want to be at all spoiled on this series, for now. I'd say that there are almost no real spoilers of consequence in either of those reviews. They summarize the premise and approach of the shows, and pass light verdicts on the quality. I suppose that to say a given episode focuses on a particular character is a spoiler of a sort, but you can read these summaries and, IMO, be entirely surprised by almost everything that happens in "Strange New World(s)" and "Children of The Comet."
I notice that they give the first episode title the plural, so I was probably mistaken about the title. As I said (that has a familiar ring) I don't recall whether the titles appeared onscreen. They probably did, and I was just a bit too overloaded to notice.
