Surely the rudimentary emh on the ship would be better than a 21st century doctor, especially on a synthetic body? But then I guess we wouldn't get another episode that's like Extreme Measures...

This whole story would be better if this was based around Shaun Christopher. This whole Renee character doesn’t work. Any hint of depression and she would be off the mission. I certainly wouldn’t want to go on a mission with her.

Plus is would be a better tie in with Assignment Earth.
Shaun Christopher wasn’t in assignment earth.

Tom Paris in "Ex Post Facto(VOY)" says that humans haven't smoked tobacco products in centuries so if Rios' cigars are synthetic then those kinds of products could be to fill the void of no more tobacco or nicotine stimulants on Earth.
Well Picard does grow his own grapes... regarding that, why can't Rios just grow his own tobacco? Are people in Trek so coddled by replicators that they don't know how to put a seed in the ground? Or are seeds and condiments like sugar extinct?

That all depends on whether they are shooting one episode at a time, or the whole season at once?
We know from Ready Room interviews that the episodes are scripted individually and that each director is given a block of two episodes to shoot. They don't just have a 10 hour script to film as one big whole and then chop into bits, no.
Each scene is shot from multiple angles, each angle for a few takes, it’s really easy to accumulate hours of shot material.
I know. But that's not what the other guy was talking about. He implied that each episode had hours of material to be chopped down to episode length, which is not how it works.
By the way, seems that Raffi is no longer angry at Picard!
Elnor's death was never Picard's fault to begin with and she knows that, she was just lashing out.
Rios mentions how the cigar he had was real. I guess that implies the cigars he had in the future with synthetic?
That's what we'd all figured all along, wasn't it?

We don't know that the Confederation's La Sirena has an EMH, and I'm not sure the ship is fully repaired anyway. What we did need, though, was a scene showing that they had tried and failed to get hold of Jurati, because not having her medical skills available to operate the biobed and equipment on La Sirena is the reason they went to the clinic instead, but that wasn't made clear until they got there. In the scene on the ground after Picard's accident, they seemed to already know that Jurati was AWOL, which shouldn't have been the case. A connecting scene would have made it clearer that the clinic was a last resort. The synthetic body seems to be able to pass as human - apart from fritzing the equipment!

Bit of a middling filler episode this. Missed doing done DS9 Badda Bing type music scores, the crisis of not having an EMH (and I’m sure Picard would love to do it), plus I am so hoping that Soong has a son somewhere called Khan and that gets retrofitted in. I’ve still got no clue as to why Q has lost his powers, This is great stuff. :)

Indeed. But maybe Q doesn’t have the money? In fact I’ve been wondering how he’s getting around if he doesn’t have his powers anymore…How can he become Renee’s new counsellor and hack into Soong’s computer and just how he can live without money and resources in the 21st century.
but maybe he still has some powers? Maybe he just can’t use them when Reneé is involved for some reason?

When Q lost his powers in Deja Q he was still an absolute genius and retained a lot of knowledge. So he’d easily be able to hack stuff etc and if he can do that I’m sure he can create some currency.

It is all indicative of the issue at hand (shortsightedness in the name of short term gains), and while most things are certainly gray, there is black and white out there, fundamental principles that have real effects on the environment and contexts around them.

I would agree, and in fact expand that to say that even when it comes to money, shortsightedness will hurt in the long run. I do not really care about quarterly profits in my company when I am focused on decades and generations. Many people forget that you have to spend money to make money, and sometimes that means booking a loss for long term gains.

However to be fair, I do not have, say, a teachers union investment fund, representing thousands of teachers who all depend on the company regularly throwing of dividends to fund their lives, as many stock exchange traded companies do. Which makes the lives of those companies more difficult.

Did Q lose his powers because the original Jean-Luc was a horcrux of his?

Works for me!

The Continuum hasn't been exactly stable since Voyager's time. It may well be on a path of implosion. Or else it can no longer navigate or function in a three-dimensional universe from lack of resonance.
