Kind of like Admiral Komack in the Kelvin Timeline as a board member at Starfleet Academy. Komack is one of the officers passing judgment on Cadet Kirk for the Kobayashi Maru incident.

Carter Winston was never a Star Fleet Officer.
He was a Philanthropist/Trader.
Essentially a Good version of Harry Mudd.

I love that the communicators and tricorders look like something that'd be around just a few years before the Original Series and I'm glad that the spacesuits don't.
I'm looking forward to an episode about a crisis that destroys all their spacesuits and forces them to come up with an ingenius improvised solution involving scissors and shower curtains.
5 female characters versus 4 male characters. Honestly that's fairly even (if you count Pike twice.)
