My only issue would be that it feels like small universe syndrome is getting out of hand, even compared to CBS other Trek offerings. The universe towards the end of "Remember Me" is starting to seem huge by comparison.
Since Kyle never had a first name in Tos.. Fans can believe hes out there as some ensign somewhere and this Kyle is someone else.
Pretty much for me this is the case. Doesn't require much thinking that there might be two people with the last name of Kyle.

he’s manning the transporters of the Enterprise pre-Kirk. The TOS Kyle is probably a cadet…at best…like Uhura. my guess is that it’s a totally different character.

His last name's Kyle, but he's not the Lt. Kyle we know. Kirk just preferred having a Kyle as transporter chief so he scoured potential recruits until he found one.
