Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Yeah, but with M'Benga, you don't have to come up with a reason why he's younger and of lesser rank/position by the time TOS rolls around. You could simply do what you want with the character of O'Benga.
True. But, age differences are a non issue if the character hits it out o the park.

My headcanon says M'Benga has a kid who's gonna go to medical school and serve on the Enterprise in 9 years time.

If this leads to a spin-off that’s a Gilmore Girls/Marvelous Ms. Maisel style fastpaced relationship dramedy two-hander about either brothers, or father & son, Star Trek: The M’Benga Boys, I’m all for it. Maisel’s ending soon, so Amy Sherman Palladino will be free.

(I’m maybe 53% joking)

Cochrane was an alcoholic with depression who lived in the postnuclear world of the mid-21st century. He had radiation poisoning at some point. It's what happened to Glenn Corbett after the mushroom clouds and the infrastructure went down in 2050s America.
But... But, in TOS S2 - "Metamorphosis"; it was clearly stated that Zefram Cochrane lived in a colony on Alpha Centauri...:biggrin:

So how did he get radiation poisoning if he lived for so long another planet?:wtf:;)

So about those cots…

SNW will have to step up its game to match the space gurney borrowed from Ben Casey.

And to keep the Smallville tradition going they should get John Schneider to play Robert April

Nah. They should go with Bruce Boxletner so fandom can explode.

M'Benga could simply have decided to go onto another assignment or something to not be on a starship for a while?

I got the impression in TOS that M'Benga was a visiting physician, not permanently assigned to the Enterprise during Kirk's tenure. That he rotated in and then out within a year or so.

Really starting to look forward to this.

Been a long while since I've watched some random Trek. Given SNW is meant to be more episodic I thought I'd sample several Berman-era episodes. Watched VOY's Hope and Fear, TNG's First Contact & The Defector & DS9's Duet. I hadn't realized how much I missed just putting an episode of Trek on and enjoying a story with a well-defined beginning, middle and end.

Incredible concept, isn't it? A short dramatic story with a point.

Serling should have thought of it.

I'm just gonna pull this out of my ass (well, not entirely): we get the first full series trailer around 8:00 PM EDT this Saturday night.

;) :)
That would be cool.

I swear the more I see, the more I wish
A) I could have a 100 episodes with this crew.
B) They should wiped the slate clean and start fresh with this crew cause they really are digging themselves into a hole connecting this with TOS.

Not really TOS is several years down the line. And it doesn't matter how long this show lasts in real time vs in universe. See MASH vs Korean War. ;)

Cochrane's ship crashed landed on the Companions planet, perhaps he was just as badly damaged as Vina was and the Companion did the best it could to reassemble him?
(like the Talosians did)
