Over on Reddit someone said Amazon X-ray identifies her as "Renee Picard". I switched over to the audio description track for that scene and it described the book she was reading as a 'Dixon Hill novel' so I guess that runs in the family. Couldn't get a good look at the tag on the tea bag she had either but I think we all know what it was.

‪‪I seemed to have maybe partially called it after learning the next few episode titles!

‪‪I believe that we’ll find that one of the astronauts on the Europa Mission will be René Picard, the great-great cousin Jean-Luc mentioned was instrumental to exploring the solar system during his speech at Starfleet Academy in the season premiere, The Star Gazer.

It could be that Q screwed with Guinan as well.

They didn't exactly appear to be on friendly terms when last they met.

I spent a good chunk of the ep distracted and annoyed by the Guinan thing. Even if the fact that they've already met had been considered and discarded by Production, you'd hope at least for Picard to be confused for a moment as to why she didn't remember him, if for no other reason than to clue us in either way.

And just for the record, this is kinda-sorta the third time Thatcher has played "the bus punk". He also popped up in Spider-Man Homecoming. ;)

I'm kinda middling on that episode. It was good, but elements didn't click. Guinan felt off (even 19th century Guinan seemed to know where humans were headed even if this was a rough patch) and then actress playing her did good but there's just. "Whoopi Vibe" missing.

And, she retains control (or regains) control of this very same bar 300-400 years later the address of which which will be the name of a bar she runs on a starship.....

:vulcan:

And, I dunno, Seven seemed to figure out driving the car pretty easily.

Decent, I'm still on board, but this one felt a little more jumbled.

So, if the Enterprise never existed, and Data's head never got sent back in time, then Time's Arrow never happened. That means we never had to meet Mark Twain.

Maybe this Confederation timeline isn't so bad after all...
Meanwhile in the Times Arrow timeline....

Of all the episodes Frakes directs why couldn't he have done this too? I get Patrick wouldn't remember he Guinan thing but i think frakes might and would've incorporated it.

Yeah, I love the idea that this dude just refuses to change with the times. I still bust out my CD player occasionally.

My 27 year old daughter is part of an aesthetic movement that embraces old VHS videos and audio cassette tapes and was part of the local DIY music scene and hanging out with aging punks, so I don't particularly find Kirk Thatcher's continued use of a boombox in 2024 all that farfetched.
