It isn’t that simple, because if that were the case then Picard and co. wouldn’t/couldn’t be from the altered future, because the future hasn’t been altered yet.
It's another Temporal thing.
By traveling back in time the way they did, it put them outside the normal flow of time, just like the Enterprise did in "First Contact".
Otherwise the ship should not exist before the 15th.

The Borg Queen's cycle of attempted seduction of/being thwarted by Jurati is the absolute highlight of the cast interactions. I'm enjoying the hell out of their maneuvering and can't help but feel Agnes is going to get too cocky and take a fall in a big way. Less invested in Rios and Teresa, but the actors have good chemistry and are pleasant to watch together, and since we still need to get his combadge back, I expect we'll be seeing her again. Raffi and Seven's highway hijinks and Picard's words of wisdom to Guinan largely felt like filler, tbh. I really wish we'd gotten to the Watcher a bit closer to the midpoint of the episode and gotten some explanation instead. Again, pacing seems to be the bit about these season-long storylines that the writers rooms can't seem to get a good handle on. Probably a skip episode on future watches, but for what it is, I liked it just fine.

But first contact still happened in kelvin per enterprise borg episode. Thus times arrow should also have happened for guinan in picard

I think comparing the two is innately a flawed premise, because they’re clearly not the same form of time travel. The methodology of time travel in both First Contact and Picard altered the Prime Universe’s history, and did not create divergent timelines, and Nero did exaclty that when his time travel created the Kelvin Universe.

I actually found it hard to concentrate on the episode 'cause I kept trying to figure out the Guinan thing in my head.

I suppose you could make the argument that when she left the Nexus she did so centuries ago, meaning by the time Time's Arrow swings around she'd be age-appropriate. But that wouldn't explain why she didn't recognise Picard.

Maybe I should take Basil Exposition's advice.
"I suggest you don't worry about those things and just enjoy yourself."

The Guinan memory thing could be explained by the Supervisors causing her to forget.

How she looks I'm just chalking up to production differences.

We've had to deal with a lot of that with this new iteration of Trek.

I think the next day or so will be telling. Let's see if the producers are willing to respond to inquiries about why Guinan doesn't recognize Picard. If they aren't, then yeah, maybe a huge error was made here. If they reply with cheek, it was definitely taken into account.

I find it hard to believe the same writers who'd bring back Kirk Thatcher and maybe even Gary Seven stuff would forget the biggest takeaway from one of Guinan's, like, three main stories. But I'm not gonna dismiss the possibility, haha.

Picard clearly does not anticipate Guinan recognizing him, hiding his name for so long and all. The worry here is that perhaps the writers were so into the idea of telling the Picard-and-Guinan friendship origin story that they forgot some important details about "Time's Arrow."

But on the other hand, if what some folks are saying about how it makes sense Guinan wouldn't recognize Picard due to Confederation La Sirena shenanigans and such, then naturally Picard would know that as well, hence the way he behaves in that scene.

So yeah, tl;dr I'll keep an eye out for fan interactions from the developers!

‪‪I disagree. ‪‪I do think it is a temporal thing, in that the timeline was already changed by Q once, resulting in Picard’s mission. As I see it they at now on a mission to prevent Q from doing so, but the timeline was already altered once in order for them to have a mission to begin with.

Over on Reddit someone said Amazon X-ray identifies her as "Renee Picard". I switched over to the audio description track for that scene and it described the book she was reading as a 'Dixon Hill novel' so I guess that runs in the family. Couldn't get a good look at the tag on the tea bag she had either but I think we all know what it was.

Huge catch, nice!

But that would mean that Q changed the timeline BEFORE the thing that happens on the 15th.
Which means the occurrence on that day is just a red herring.

I appreciated the Kirk Thatcher cameo but do street punks still use boom boxes these days? Haha. I mean, I figured he'd be playing that song on his phone really loud. But I guess the fact that he's STILL using a boombox in 2024 makes it that much funnier.

Yeah, I love the idea that this dude just refuses to change with the times. I still bust out my CD player occasionally.

I recognized the author’s name on the book cover. So that makes sense.

idk, listening to music on your phone goes against anything punk stands for. but then again, going against anything punk stands for is what punk is all about, because f the rules!

It wouldn’t mean it was a red herring, because for Picard and co., having come from the future, are from a point past the 15th, Q could have already altered the timeline in the future of their 2024 present by 3 days, but in Picard & Stargazer crew/Confederate La Sirena’s past.

As @Quinton said, until the producers mention what they’re thinking, ‪‪we won’t know exactly. I think it’s up to interpretation, because time travel rules aren’t a science, since it’s all speculation at best, and mostly just made up.

‪‪I always try to think “4th dimensionally” about this kind of stuff, like Doc Brown always told Marty. It’ll be interested to see if they do weigh in on it at all in the next few days!
